We were unable to make our stay coming from Christchurch for to floods and wild fires. We were 3 hours away after driving 6 hours. I notified the hotel we wouldn't make it due to the long remaining drive. Clare responded by checking my social media to locate me and commenting about it. I was forfeiting my room so it didn't matter. I found that creepy and invasive. So I didn't stay here. I'm sure it's fine but the staff will be checking your Instagram.

Quirky hotel with a happy hour that wasn't!

A quirky hotel with psychodelic, brightly coloured door numbers, loo seats, waste bins and art! Conveniently placed just on the edge of Nelson, easily walkable into the town centre. There was a notice in the room about happy hour which lasted all afternoon and we had 2 glasses of wine at about 5.00. We were, however, very surprised to find that the drinks were exactly the same price with our evening meal! Rather a con to say that there was a happy hour!

Loved our room & the river in front. Found the Front Desk Staff a bit indifferent. Parking was a lottery of which we were not informed. Also not informed about a conference in the restaurant on our 2 nights there which meant we had to dine elsewhere.

The photos advertised for the bathroom were not accurate. The floor for the shower was the same floor throughout the bathroom so when you shower water gets everywhere. The photos showed a divided shower. As well as we got a riverfront studio and our view was of the parking lot and the pool. There was also a notice in the room that I did not see advertised that there was a possibility of bugs being present in the room due to being close to the river which my wife and felt uneasy throughout the night. Had we known this information before hand, I would not have booked this hotel room. Finally, the floors were covered in large stains that made it feel uncomfortable to walk on without shoes. Very unsatisfactory stay at the tides hotel.
