The owners of this property have put alot of effort into having guests feel like one big family and to feel looked after. Sandy personally served everyone their breakfast in such a classy yet friendly way, in a formal dining room complete with china and all the trimmings. It was a very special experience.
Sandy!!!! He makes the stay special & goes out of his way to inform you on the area history & things to see. Cathy’s croissants are amazing. You need to do to have breakfast served by a man in a kilt.
Too much Sandy! While this is a nicely appointed and restored building, the host, Sandy, is just too much. While he was pleasant and accommodating in small doses, when we were alone with him over breakfast things became unpleasant. He simply needs to be the centre of attention at all times. And when discussion strayed to politics ( he’s a big Trump fan) and I expressed a contrary view, he presumed to “know exactly how I think” even though he hadn’t really paid attention to anything I had said up until then. My wife became very stressed and we just hightailed it out of there.
Earlier in the conversation Sandy went on for an uncomfortably long time about how he loves to make clever or insulting replies to people who post negative reviews. So I will be interested to see what he does with this. Over to you, Sandy.
Classic building with comfortable bed and great patio and garden. The host is a gregarious Scot. Pictou is small but charming with many old buildings and a nice waterfront.

We very much enjoyed our two night stay at The Scotsman’s Inn. Sandy and Cathy were convivial hosts and provided us with a lot of helpful advice on areas of local interest and our journey onwards to Cape Breton. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and the bed/mattress was very comfortable. The Inn had been lovingly restored and was full of character. A small improvement for us would have been the provision of natural yoghurt and decaf coffee for breakfast.
Breakfast was very nice and served with style by Sandy in his kilt. As the owners are the sole employees there was no flexibility with check in time (and we got an ear full arriving less than 5 mins early). The Owner is also very vocal on political opinions which raised eyebrows with us and several guests. All in all, it was a fair stay.
Sandy & Cathy are terrific hosts and its a beautiful historic property. Sandy is a character and will keep you laughing! We had a great time and would have liked to be there for more than one night. We would absolutely stay there again.
Beautifully restored historic house (every detail). Comfortable bed, crispy clean white bedding and towels. Walking distance to restaurants and downtown.
The property is very convenient to the downtown area as well as being safe and quiet.
The owners, Sandy and Cathy, are excellent hosts. The rooms are clean, well maintained and are very comfortable. The rooms I have stayed in have all had good views of the town and harbor.
Difficult climbing 50 steps with luggage to room although we knew this was coming. Do not arrive before 4:00 check in. Nice breakfast but not a lot of protein. Room was nice with view.
A bit different but exceeded expectations. Try it!

Authentic inn run by a Scotsman and his wife; he serves breakfast in the dining room in his kilt. He has a wealth of knowledge about the history of the area. Our room was quaint in a visiting-your-aunt-in the-country kind of way. Great location for exploring Pictou.

This was our favourite accommodation on our recent trip to Nova Scotia and PEI. The room with private bath was gorgeous. The hospitality was superb. Our host, Sandy, was charming and an outstanding storyteller. Breakfasts were a delightful and delish experience with Sandy serving in his kilt while Kathy baked croissants in the kitchen. Cannot speak highly enough about this memorable stay.
Very quaint, old-timey inn with hosts who were both friendly and accommodating. They made us feel right at home. I wanted the experience of stepping off a ship into a new land, and that’s exactly what it felt like—in the best way. Breakfast was wonderful, shared with a true Scotsman and his incredible hospitality. (Pack light as there is no elevator as it was built in the 1800's)

Upon arrival the exterior was less than promising. However, once inside the front door we were greeted by shining hardwood floors and super clean facilities. The proprietor, Dandy, greeted us warmly on the 2nd level and asked us to join other guests for a. Glad of wine. Very positive. Rooms were quaint and neatly outfitted. Great place.
