The location was easily accessible and there was a local market. It’s supposed to be a non smoking establishment however, the bedding had several cigarette burns in the spread and when bought to housekeepers attention she stated “Oh yeah we know it was the people before you” there was literally a hole in the wall which housekeeper also acknowledged, the bathroom shower curtain was water proof/plastic with excessive soap scum. There was a roach in the room and the linen had stains in it as well. The flooring was grimy and gritty and to think I picked this establishment over a motel 6!! Ha….. lol it definitely gave motel 6 vibes since you know what to expect when booking a motel 6!! I definitely wouldn’t recommend especially with the starting fee of 200 per night…. And I have photos to support everything that I stated however I don’t see the option to upload them. Choose wisely, if you are only interested in location then this is your place!! It’s accessible to everything within walking distance!! But it was the unsanitary conditions that caused the loss of a possible returning customer!!

We booked here to take in some of the historical experience of NOLA a little ways off of the crazy French Quarters. This place is very old and uncared for. We got a suite type room that had old carpet and broken wooden flooring. The kitchen sink was broken and the mini fridge sat on the floor. . The shower head broke off and we couldn’t even shower. There were pieces of the wall broken off and messy. The sweet girl at the desk offered us the other suite style room and it was just as run down. The toilet was about to fall through the floor. We ended up leaving and having to find new accommodations at a very expensive price. We were charged for both nights even though we wanted to leave. Do not book here, not worth the money at all.

Staff was great. Hotel is old but in decent condition. Walkable to Bourbon Street, but the neighborhoods are sketchy. Lots of homeless. Travel in a group. If you’re just needing a place to stay for the night and a comfortable bed to sleep in come this place is great. No frills

The first room we had was an actual cellar. Smelled like humidity and mold. There were centipedes in the room. The second one was slightly better but still had that horrible moldy cellar smell. Might become a safety hazard after a while.

The rooms were small and inadequately ventilated. When I got back from dinner, I found my AC wasn’t working properly, and the staff on duty nagged me about wanting to change rooms. It was only when I was sought a refund that they let me change to a different room.

The Historic Mardi Gras Inn is not for everyone but if you appreciate authenticity and character, it’s an experience worth having. Keep in mind that New Orleans is a city built on a swamp, and the inn reflects some of those realities: bugs may come up through the pipes, and at times there’s a lingering sewage smell. The property itself is not modernized, but that’s exactly where its charm lies. The colors, the architecture, and the neighborhood create a nostalgic sense of old-world living, as if you’ve been transported back to the 1800s. The location is ideal. The neighborhood has everything you could need, plenty of parking, quiet streets, and endless opportunities for photographers. It’s a welcoming, very LGBTQ-friendly community where we made friends instantly. Frenchmen Street is just a short walk away, alive with brass-band magic, artists, poets, and some of the best bars and restaurants you’ll find. And the food—absolutely unforgettable. The staff, especially Jasmine, were warm, attentive, and made us feel at home. Our neighbor Matteo was also a highlight of our stay. My only real critique: the sheets need an upgrade. There’s no excuse for stains in such a beautiful, historic setting. Overall, I loved my time here. The inn may not offer modern luxury, but it provides something far rarer—a sense of place, history, and belonging.
