The Lodge is very nice and the restaurant was great. The reason for my average rating was the $60 parking cost surprise at checkout. I booked and paid for my room on Expedia. The person that checked me in did all the typical check in paperwork and issued me a parking hang tag and told me how to get to the garage and room. I was never informed that parking would cost $30 per day. At check out I was charged for parking and was told by the front desk clerk that I should have told about the parking cost because I could have parked on the street for free! Yes, there was plenty of street parking right outside our Custis building. In addition the room had food wrappers in the night table drawers, cups on the floor and clearly the room had not been vacuumed. Other than that the room and bath were clean.

The location was the best! Everything is within walking distance. The lobby smelled amazing! The staff was very professional from the front desk to our cleaning person and accommodating. The hotel and room resembles the colonial Williamsburg feel. The only complaint would be others who were checking in late( a huge family) were slamming doors and talking in the hallways really late. Also the water in the shower was not that hot. We would stay again.

The hotel is very dated. The room was fine, but for what I paid I felt the hotel could have offered more. I have stayed in the Lodge in the past as well as the Inn, and next time I will definitely stay at the Inn. The staff was quite friendly, but also lacking in nattention to details. Such as making sure I had assistance with my bags, parking my vehicle. There is no valet parking at this hotel, and I found that to be strange.

On arrival it was chaos. Waited in a line of cars while folks in orange vests stopped to talk to people. On our turn we found out there was some kind of Gala happening. We were directed to a parking lot, but drove around and around — no parking spaces. Finally caught someone leaving and managed to grab a parallel spot, but we were told we should try to wake up early the next day and move our car because it wasn’t technically a spot. I asked if there was somewhere else for guests to park and was told “it’s all full.” On check in there was only one woman working and she was overwhelmed. A line formed and we waited and waited as she tried to help someone on the phone who needed a ride back from…I’m not sure where. Many (three) other staffers watched this happen and did nothing for about 10 minutes. Finally one of them went behind the front desk and started checking folks in. Fast forward to check-out two days later…no one at the desk. No one at concierge. No one anywhere. And this was morning, not some odd time of day. We waited for a while, but there was no staff in sight. We finally left a handwritten note stating we were done with the room, then left. Room was clean, spacious, and well-appointed, but not very soundproof. We could hear everything in the hallway and the adjacent rooms. I’ll give a lot of grace here, because of the gala. But there should, perhaps, be parking set aside for hotel guests. And someone should have jumped in and helped sooner at the front desk.
