The Space:

Kōwhai Studio is a renovated studio in the middle of the Okere Falls community, five minutes' walk from the store, the rafting base and the Kaituna River track. The private courtyard is sheltered from the wind, the Stoked stainless spa bath is hot whenever you are, and the BBQ is a few steps away.



PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BOOK

The bathroom, including the toilet and the shower, is in a separate outdoor pod about 3m from the studio door. There is no internal access to either - you step outside and walk across to reach them. It sits in your own private back courtyard, so you can come and go in complete privacy - no one else passes through. Plenty of guests love it and barely mention it afterwards, but it is the one thing to be sure about before you book.

- BEDROOM -

Studio layout - the super king bed sits in the main room, which keeps the whole space open to the courtyard.

- BATHROOM -

Worth reading twice: the bathroom is a separate outdoor pod, about 3m from the studio door. The shower, toilet and basin are all in there, and there is no internal access to either - you step outside and walk across to reach them. The pod sits in your own private back courtyard, so the walk across is completely private - no one else passes through. On a warm Okere Falls evening it is a treat, on a wet one it is a short dash. There is also an outdoor shower in the courtyard for rinsing off after a day on the river or the trails.



- LIVING AREA -

Open-plan lounge and kitchenette with a comfortable sofa, dining space and a Smart TV with Netflix. The kitchenette has an electric hob and oven, fridge, coffee plunger and the gear to cook a proper meal. Gas hot water and a heat pump keep things comfortable year-round, and there is a washer and dryer combo in the studio.



- OUTDOOR AREA -

The private courtyard is why people book here. It is walled off from the wind, and the Stoked stainless spa bath sits right in it - no waiting, no fuss, just get in. The BBQ and outdoor dining table are alongside, so dinner and a long soak can happen in the same evening.



- GEAR STORAGE & DRYING ROOM -

Lockable storage for mountain bikes and fishing gear - wheel them around the side of the house - plus an indoor drying room for wetsuits, riding kit and anything the Kaituna gets to first.



- PARKING -

Off-street parking directly in front of the studio, on a shared driveway.



Guest Access:

The studio, the private courtyard, the Stoked spa bath, the BBQ, the outdoor bathroom pod and the drying room are all yours for the stay. Self check-in is via the key safe, so you can arrive when it suits. Your host Leanne is nearby if you need her and out of your way if you don't. Travelling with friends or family? The Neighborhood:

Okere Falls is a real Bay of Plenty community rather than a resort strip, sitting where Lake Rotoiti meets the Kaituna River about 25 minutes north-east of Rotorua. Cross the over bridge and you are at the Okere Falls Store - cafe, deli and one of the best craft beer gardens in the country - with Rotorua Rafting and the Okere Falls river track a few steps further on. The Kaituna runs Grade 5 through Tutea Falls if you want it to, and Lake Rotoiti is calm water for kayaking, swimming and trout fishing. Twenty-five minutes into Rotorua puts you at the Redwoods Forest, Te Puia, Skyline Gondola & Luge, Zorb, Canopy Tours, Polynesian Spa and Waiariki Spa. The Bay of Plenty beaches are about 40 minutes the other way. This is a lived-in neighbourhood with neighbours and the sounds that come with them - guests who like that tend to love it here.



Getting Around:

You will want a car for the wider Rotorua attractions, and there is off-street parking directly in front of the studio on a shared driveway. Rotorua Airport is 15 minutes away via SH33 and SH30, and central Rotorua is about 25 minutes. The Okere Falls Store, Rotorua Rafting and the river track are all walkable over the bridge, so plenty of days here need no driving at all. Redwoods Forest, Te Puia, Skyline Gondola & Luge, Zorb, Canopy Tours, Polynesian Spa and Waiariki Spa are all around 25 minutes, and Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty beaches roughly 40 minutes.

The studio is not suitable for children.



Self check-in is via the key safe and the code is sent before you arrive. The driveway is shared, so please park considerately and keep an eye out for vehicles and people coming the other way.



The spa bath is ready to use on arrival - no heating time needed.
