Conveniently located; reasonably priced; great staff. My only criticism is that the room could have been cleaned a little better; the bathtub was not clean; I found an (almost) empty sushi dinner box behind the table by the bed.

Red Lion Corporate should be alerted to the terrible condition of this property. It's an embarrassment to the Red Lion image to be sure. Carpets were stained and worn, the tub was peeling and the shower curtain was shredded, not all lights in the room worked, there was an icy draft coming through the window. Clearly despite all this, housekeeping and other folks here are doing the best they can. The linens were clean, and the breakfast was ok. The elevator was out of commission briefly during our stay. There are space heaters scattered around the lobby because there is some sort of issue with central heating. I feel badly for the folks who work there and wish they had a workplace they could take more pride in- but someone is holding back the resources to make this place nicer. The weekend we were there the place was entirely booked- so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Insecure building in a not-particularly-good part of town. Back door to the lobby unlocked (the door would not even close). Toliet in the room worked, barely. Sheets were the wrong size and we had to get a 2nd set for the 2nd (of two night's) stay. They did server "breakfast", after a fasion but the "dinning" area (looked like an old bar) was so cold all we could do is grab some food and coffee and head back to our room to eat. This actually is a very old, and poorly maintained, building with a "Red Lion" banner hung from the outside. Too bad they closed the old Red Lion (somewhat west of the Capitol Building) -- We stayed at the prior location several times -- it was nice .....

If you are looking for an affordable place to stay, this is a good option. Very centrally-located, this hotel had its day and is in dire need of a deep renovation. That being said, if you can live with dings in the walls and peeling paint, it is a fantastic value. The bed was comfortable, the temperature was comfortable, it was clean, and I got a good nights' sleep. My shower did have some temperature issues (hot was cold, cold was hot on the handle, and then the shower itself kept oscillating between the two temperatures which I informed the staff about when leaving). I even got a decent light breakfast on the way out and the coffee was good. I would stay here again.

Hotel needs a lot of work

Hotel was in a good location for walking to restaurants and the Washington Performing Arts Center but unfortunately has not been taken care of. The building was very run down throughout- all the furniture in the lobby and room was scuffed/damaged, stains on all the rugs/carpets, curtains missing hooks, piles of garbage (row boat, mattress, etc) in the parking lot. The room seemed clean- bedding and towel in good condition but they had tried to paint the bathtub with regular paint so it was peeling and did not seem usable.

Decent accommodations for a very rundown hotel

this hotel is very conveniently located to both the capital, and the Washington center for performing arts, a couple of restaurants, etc. However, it is quite rundown, dated, and the HVAC system is pretty wonky. For one night stay, it was perfectly fine for me. The front desk staff was very kind, responsive, and accommodating.

The Governor is a great spot and super affordable. The rooms have mini-refrigerators which is awesome. A lot of newer hotels don’t have them anymore. The location is very convenient & the staff is great.

Convenient downtown hotel

The hotel fit our needs. Good location for us, quiet, free parking in an urban area, comfortable bed and seating area, coffee in the room.

I would love to give them better reviews but the floors were torn up and the tubs were falling apart some of them had no walls or missing parts on the wall as well as chunks missing out of the bottom of the tub after being moved and the next room having the same problem, It was better to just wait it out.
