Purple Unicorn
Varenna is a small, very vertically oriented place, and good spots with great locations are hard to come by. This unit seems newly built, and, for us, included a garage. Units like these, located just a few blocks from the Ferry Slip are incredibly hard to come by. With a place to store your car (train accommodations are all second class, with no seats to be had, on many trains) this place is pure gold. Everything worked; nothing was broken. Everything was clean, new, and modern. If one were to arrive by train, this place is literally across the tracks from the train station. I suspect, based upon similar gate and entry designs, that several units in the neighborhood are owned by the same owners. We were initially concerned about difficulties in getting VRBO responses from the owners, but once we were in Varenna, Marco took care of us, and our questions very well. I was raised in a family who worked for generations on the railways in the US, and the sound of trains, (well muted by the double pane windows) makes me a bit nostalgic. My wife thinks the sound of trains in the distance is romantic. It is nothing that should bother anyone’s sleep.
This is a top floor unit, and the patio overlooks a marvelous view. From the sliding patio doors, which also tilt inward, should one desire, there are wonderful views of the lake, Menaggio, and Belagio, across the lake, as well as all of the ferry and boating activity, and those majestic mountains which encircle the place. There are recliner chairs, as well as a deck dining set. The AC works marvelously well, and, since the rooftop units are just above, provide a kind of white noise effect which is rather soothing, and subtle. We will definitely book this unit again, when we return to Varenna.
Little things: lots of towels, a spare twin bed, in the bedroom. Places to open a suitcase. Quite spacious for two travelers. Nice flooring, and clean, clean, clean. The bed and pillows were just the way we like them, and we slept marvelously in this unit.
