About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
2 Bed in Pettigo (oc-ii07924)
Perfect for a party of four, this rural retreat sits amid the lough-studded landscape of southern Donegal, close to the boundary between Northern Ireland and the Republic. Alongside two en-suite bedrooms, working fireplaces add an authentic family-home feel to the living rooms, and there’s a fully enclosed garden where children can play.
Built in the early 19th century, this striking stone dwelling sits in a peaceful spot just off the main road between Pettigo and Donegal town. Once a gamekeeper’s lodge it retains much of its traditional charm, the exposed beams, fireplaces and original flag-stone floors now complemented by all the must-haves of a fuss-free stay. An open fire is the focal point of the lounge, where you can stretch out on an inviting sofa or armchair and watch TV. Enjoy scenic country views and toast your toes before the wood burner in the spacious kitchen/diner – as in so many country dwellings, this is the heart of the home. A handy utility room with laundry equipment rounds off the ground floor layout, while upstairs you’ll find a double and a twin bedroom, each with its own en-suite shower room. To fully appreciate your stunning surroundings, step out into the fully enclosed, lawned garden at the front of the lodge – a lovely spot to unwind while the youngsters let off steam.
The village of Pettigo (3.5 miles) straddles the border of Donegal and Fermanagh, and is home to shops, pubs and walking trails including the Ulster Way. Twelve miles in the opposite direction, vibrant Donegal town overlooks its eponymous Bay, with a backdrop of the Bluestack Mountains on the Wild Atlantic Way. Visit the castle that towers over the River Eske in the heart of town to learn more about its history. Beyond, the fabulous beaches at Murvagh and Rossnowlagh (both within 16 miles) are ideal for swimming and walking; closer to home, enjoy cycle rides or hikes around Lough Derg (12 miles), Ireland's most ancient place of pilgrimage.
