PRIVATE FARMHOUSE ON 54-ACRE ALPACA FARM | PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY WINE COUNTRY
Set on 54 acres along Closson Road — Prince Edward County’s celebrated wine route — Chetwyn Farms offers a rare opportunity to stay on a beautiful working alpaca farm while being just minutes from some of the County’s best wineries, restaurants, farm shops and villages.
Our turn-of-the-century farmhouse has been thoughtfully restored to retain its country character while offering the comfort and understated style of a relaxed rural retreat.
There is a wonderful sense of privacy here. Wake to views across open fields, enjoy your morning coffee while the farm comes quietly to life around you, and return at the end of a day exploring the County to a farmhouse that feels entirely your own.
At the heart of the house is a spacious open kitchen with island, leading into a warm great room with stone fireplace. The adjoining dining room features a large harvest table for leisurely dinners with family and friends, while the elegant living room — complete with baby grand piano — provides a quiet place to read, gather, play music or simply settle in at the end of the day.
The farmhouse comfortably accommodates up to six guests. Upstairs, the principal bedroom includes a private two-piece ensuite, while a second guest bedroom is located near the full four-piece bathroom. A smaller third bedroom and additional three-piece bathroom are located on the main floor.
STAY ON A WORKING ALPACA FARM
What makes a stay at Chetwyn Farms particularly special is everything happening just beyond the farmhouse door.
This isn’t a farm-themed getaway. Chetwyn is a real working farm, home to our herd of alpacas and other farm animals, surrounded by fields and the changing landscape of rural Prince Edward County.
Guests are welcome to wander the farm’s 54 acres, visit the alpacas, explore the studios and simply watch the quiet daily rhythm of farm life unfold around them. Depending on the season, mornings might begin with animals being fed in the barn, alpacas moving into the fields and the farm gradually coming to life.
During the farm’s operating season, The SHED shop and Fibre Studios offer locally inspired goods, alpaca fibre products, exhibitions, workshops and special events.
And perhaps the greatest luxury of staying on a farm: you get to enjoy farm life without the farm chores.
Our Farm Manager visits twice daily to care for the animals and attend to the working farm, leaving you free to enjoy the landscape, the animals and the atmosphere at your own pace. Those curious about farm life are always welcome to watch — and occasionally lend a hand if the opportunity arises.
A DAY AT CHETWYN
There is no particular way to spend a day here.
Take coffee outside in the morning and watch the farm wake up. Wander through the fields or visit the animals before heading out to explore the wineries along Closson Road. Cycle from the farm, browse nearby farm shops and studios, stop for lunch or spend the afternoon at Sandbanks.
Then come home.
Open a bottle of something discovered just down the road, make dinner in the farmhouse kitchen, gather around the harvest table, play the piano, sit by the fire or simply enjoy the quiet of the countryside as evening settles over the fields.
The farm provides a lovely counterpoint to the energy of exploring Prince Edward County — a place to return to, slow down and stay awhile.
EXPLORE PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY
Chetwyn Farms is ideally situated for discovering the County.
Closson Road itself is home to acclaimed wineries, farm shops and lavender fields, making it possible to spend a wonderful afternoon exploring without travelling far from the farm.
The village of Wellington is less than ten minutes away, with restaurants, shops and the Drake Devonshire overlooking Lake Ontario. Bloomfield and Picton are an easy drive for galleries, independent shops, ice cream, cocktails and some of the County’s best dining.
Travel a little farther and discover roadside farm stands, artists’ studios, breweries, distilleries and the beaches and dunes of Sandbanks Provincial Park.
Then leave the crowds behind and return to your own farmhouse in the country.
COME FOR THE COUNTY. STAY FOR THE FARM.
Chetwyn Farms is for guests who want something a little different from a conventional cottage or vacation rental.
It is the experience of staying within the landscape of Prince Edward County rather than simply visiting it — mornings overlooking the fields, alpacas beyond the farmhouse, afternoons exploring wine country and evenings gathered around the table or fireplace.
Private, peaceful and distinctly Prince Edward County.
PETS
Please ask us about bringing your pet. As Chetwyn is a working farm with alpacas and other animals, dogs require special consideration, but may be possible depending on the circumstances.
