The Space
*Please note a spiral staircase is the interior access to all the bedrooms, which are located downstairs. There is a gently sloping path from the driveway to the downstairs outside access as an alternate route. Guests need to be able to navigate steps.
Originally designed in 1960 by celebrated architect Don Stewart—who also created UNC’s Carmichael Auditorium—this stunning home was inspired by the original owners’ time in Japan, blending clean modernist lines with subtle Japanese details. Shoji screens, warm wood tones, and thoughtfully preserved architectural elements make this home feel both serene and striking. Thoughtfully restored and updated in 2025, the renovation honors the home’s original design while introducing fresh, high-end finishes for today’s comfort.

A Piece of Chapel Hill History
Located in one of Chapel Hill’s most storied neighborhoods—developed in the 1950s and 60s on land once farmed by early settlers—the home is part of a community known for its modernist homes, proximity to nature, and rich cultural heritage. You're steps from nature trails, historic mill sites, and preserved greenways that tell the story of North Carolina’s past.
Guest Access
You’ll receive general info 2 days before your stay and an entry code the day of your arrival.
