Welcome to Lemon Top Cottage, a cosy and welcoming seaside retreat just a four-minute stroll from Redcar’s expansive sandy beach, which stretches for miles along the Yorkshire coast to the charming towns of Marske and Saltburn. Perfectly positioned for exploring the dramatic North Yorkshire coastline and the stunning landscapes of the North York Moors National Park, this cheerful lemon-yellow cottage takes its name from the famous “Lemon Top” ice cream, a much-loved local treat that originated in Redcar.
Stepping inside, the cottage has been thoughtfully styled with nautical decorative touches that reflect its coastal setting. The comfortable sofa also converts into a sofa bed for additional guests. One of the home’s most charming features is the handmade built-in bar tucked beneath the stairs—a quirky and fun spot to mix cocktails and enjoy an evening drink together.
The adjoining galley kitchen is well equipped for preparing anything from lazy breakfasts to evening meals. From here, doors lead out to the enclosed rear patio, where you’ll find a fabulous covered seating area, making it a wonderful social space for dining al fresco or relaxing outdoors whatever the weather.
Upstairs, the cottage offers two inviting bedrooms: a comfortable master double and a twin room, ideal for families or friends. The family bathroom is also located on this floor and features a bath with shower over, as well as a separate shower cubicle for added convenience.
Redcar is a traditional seaside town known for its wide sandy beach, lively promenade and sweeping sea views, making it a wonderful place for a classic British coastal escape. Guests can enjoy long walks along the shore, fish and chips by the sea, and easy access to some of Yorkshire’s most beautiful coastal scenery. There’s also the race course where you can enjoy a flutter, a great occasion to get dressed up and have a tipple or two.
From Redcar you can join the Cleveland Way, a renowned long-distance trail that combines dramatic clifftop scenery with views across the North Sea. To the south you have Saltburn-by-the-Sea, a charming Victorian resort famous for its historic pier, cliff lift and golden beach, as well as its relaxed surf culture and scenic coastal walks.
Continue along the Cleveland Way and you have the picturesque fishing village of Staithes, once a bustling fishing and mining community and now a beloved spot with winding streets, colourful cottages and a beautiful harbour. Runswick Bay is a postcard-perfect village tucked beneath cliffs with a sweeping sandy beach, popular for fossil hunting, rockpooling and wildlife spotting.
Around a 45 minute drive away you have Whitby, famous for its historic harbour, dramatic abbey ruins, maritime heritage and excellent seafood restaurants. The coastal route linking these destinations offers some of the most spectacular scenery in North Yorkshire, with cliff-top paths passing through charming villages and hidden bays.
Lemon Top Cottage is an ideal base for dog lovers, with fantastic walking routes right on the doorstep and several dog-friendly beaches nearby, including Redcar’s long sandy shore. Whether you’re enjoying coastal strolls, exploring the Cleveland Way, or venturing into the North York Moors, there’s no shortage of adventures for both two- and four-legged guests.
