Lovingly and beautifully renovated and decorated, Garden Cottage is conveniently set between the edge of the old part of Richmond and the lovely Swaledale countryside. The cottage is rated Visit England 5-star gold with a prestigious Rose award given in 2022.
This pretty, Victorian gardener’s cottage stands in the former kitchen garden of Yorke House. The cottage front door opens into a stone flagged passage leading to the garden and well-equipped kitchen, sitting room with dining area and downstairs cloakroom. A door from the kitchen leads upstairs to the en-suite master bedroom, second double bedroom, further twin bedroom and family bathroom with bath and separate shower. In the delightful sitting room you will find a piano (regularly tuned), dining table seating six guests and French doors leading out to the garden.
The cottage’s secure stone corridor which leads guests outside, can accommodate bikes, boots, coats and pushchairs and is a great place for damp dogs to dry off. Outside the pretty, enclosed, south-facing garden has a patio table and chairs, lawn with superb Monkey-Puzzle tree, roses, apple trees and flowery borders – perfect for evening drinks, dining al fresco or just a laze with a good book!. The garden gives spectacular views of Richmond Castle and Billy Banks Woods. Guests are invited through the picket gate to explore the owners’ one acre award winning garden.
Garden Cottage offers the best of town and country and is just five minutes walk to Richmond Market Place and five minutes to riverside and woodland walks.

The garden is just a delight and has seating for six guests around a wrought iron table. There is also an additional garden bench.

Entrance to Garden Cottage is from the drive, which is shared with the owners, who live next door. The drive has a slight slope. Guests may unload at the front door and park further up the drive.

Children and infants welcome. A high chair is provided on request at time of booking, however please bring your own travel cot.
Two well-behaved dogs are welcome (no extra charge).
The entrance passage is level with one step down into garden and 1 step up into kitchen.
