The staff were very helpful and friendly - even when we arrived at 1am. The room was clean and comfortable, however after a long flight, our sleep was not the best as we could hear a family next to us slamming their door constantly and then eating breakfast (plates and cutlery banging) through the walls. The elevators were also quite small and slow.

The hotel was clean and located perfectly by the beach. Multiple dining locations in the area plus shopping markets. The staff was helpful and friendly especially at the rooftop bar.

Very good hotel. However we had a side view balcony room which was oddly arranged. Big comfy bed but only one side table and lamp!! Would have been Excellent if room was better.. Great position on Copacabana beach with allocated space on the beach. Good lobby area. Breakfast excellent. Poolbar on the 20th floor great.

I want to take the time to say thank you to the entire staff of PortoBay RJ. Alison did my check-in and was stellar, his colleague Alice who helped me with tiny issues that came up with our room (2) and gave me suggestions for hair products, we could not have asked for a kinder staff. The few small issues we had were immediately resolved and when we forgot cutlery after having to get food later in the night they team did not hesitate.Thank you to the entire team for making our stay peaceful and pleasant.

When you get a chance, send this to the Expedia support: Dear [Hotel Manager’s Name], I am writing to formally request a full refund for the stay my friends and I experienced at PortoBay in Rio de Janeiro over the New Year holiday. Our visit, intended as a celebratory occasion, was severely disrupted by a series of unacceptable incidents and a lack of timely response from hotel staff. On New Year’s Eve, we encountered a severe leak in our bathroom that resulted in water damage to our personal belongings, including my hair styling tools, which were ruined. More alarmingly, the slippery conditions caused one of my friends to slip and suffer a cut, resulting in visible blood on the wall and requiring immediate attention. Despite our urgent call to the front desk, it took approximately 45 minutes for hotel staff to respond. A maintenance worker then spent over an hour in our bathroom addressing the issue, which made it impossible for us to prepare for the New Year’s Eve dinner event at the Copacabana Palace—an event for which we had purchased tickets costing $1,200 USD each. Missing this event completely ruined our New Year’s celebration. We were assured at the time that management would contact us promptly to resolve these issues. However, as of today, January 9th, we have received no communication whatsoever. In addition to the disruption and property damage, the room developed a strong mildew and mold smell due to the leak, creating an unpleasant and unhealthy environment
