We paid a lot for 2 standard rooms for 2 nights at the start of December. We were emailed by the hotel after the date had passed to cancel that due to Christmas Parties the main restaurant was closed and no food available after 6pm. We had to find a restaurant in town to eat when ideally we wanted to have met family and dined in the hotel especially as my father’s mobility is poor. We made arrangements and were told that we could get a drink in the secondary small bar. There was virtually no space as full with guests that could it use the main bar/restaurant and all the draft ales were off! The staff didn’t care as they were clearly understaffed and young and inexperienced. The noise from the party kept us awake until the early hours and when we woke in the morning to shower and have breakfast we found only one towel available and badly fitted fixtures. We would have booked elsewhere had we known about the parties and no food or drink but the hotel only informed me a week or so after the window to cancel had passed. The room was overpriced due to the Christmas gravy train enjoyed by the hotel and we should have been able to cancel after being informed or at least credited to reflect the limits of the stay. The management really need a kick up the backside as we were one of many guests paying top dollar and then not able to cancel. A lot of miserable guests, greedy and shameful
Very clean and comfortable room. Great bed, quiet area. Excellent breakfast. Short walk into town. I liked the option of not having the room serviced and receiving a free drink! The lift was a bit dodgy - very slow. Enjoyed my stay.
The room was well-equipped, very clean and comfortable. The staff were generally very friendly, and breakfast was tasty. Our main disappointment was a blanket ‘no’ when we asked to check in half an hour early, with no apparent effort made to justify such a hasty refusal.This made our stay feel less personal overall, which was a shame when everything else was of the high standard you would expect from a hotel in this price range.
