Escape to the quiet beauty of the South Hampshire countryside at The Shepherd’s Hut at Hilltop Farm — a peaceful, secluded retreat surrounded by woodland and 10 acres of private land. Tucked along a tranquil country lane, it’s the perfect place for couples to slow down, switch off from everyday life, and enjoy time together in nature.
Surrounded by rustling trees, open fields and the gentle sounds of the countryside, this off-grid-style haven is made for unhurried days. Spend your time walking, cycling or horse riding along the area’s scenic trails, or simply wander through your own slice of countryside and enjoy the freedom of having 10 acres to explore. A friendly Shetland pony grazes nearby, adding to the peaceful rural atmosphere.
Though wonderfully secluded, Hilltop Farm is just a short drive from the enchanting New Forest and the historic market town of Romsey, making it easy to combine your countryside escape with days out exploring the local area.
Back at the farm, settle into the slower rhythm of country life. Gather around the firepit for starlit conversations, cook outdoors together, or simply sit back and enjoy the sounds of nature. There’s also a woodland swing and whimsical fairy garden to discover.
Your stay includes access to five shepherds’ huts thoughtfully spaced throughout the grounds, creating a genuine retreat experience with plenty of space and privacy. The charming bathroom hut features a roll-top bath with shower taps — perfect for a rustic soak after a day spent outdoors. Please note, there is no stand-up shower.
The beds are cosy and may not suit taller guests, while the second hut features a small double daybed.
In keeping with the peaceful setting, Hilltop Farm is a quiet escape, ideal for wildlife watching, forest bathing and simply reconnecting with the outdoors. Sheep may occasionally graze nearby, and some areas are fenced for safety, but guests are welcome to explore the surroundings at their leisure. The access track is rural and uneven, so low-clearance vehicles should approach with care.
Any extra guests must be arranged in advance.
Please note that there is an unfenced pond on site. We kindly ask that children are supervised at all times for their safety.
There is no heating available inside the huts. Due to the distance between the huts, lighting and mobile phone charging sockets are available only in the two sleeping huts.
The garden is not fenced off, so dogs will need to be monitored/kept on a lead. We love welcoming four-legged friends, but due to the nearby livestock, we can only accommodate small, well-behaved dogs.
Please note that during periods of high temperatures or drought, any fire bowls or BBQs on site will be unavailable due to safety and security considerations.
Come to Hilltop Farm to step away from the everyday and spend some uninterrupted time together, surrounded by woodland, open countryside and the slow, grounding rhythm of nature.
