We booked this apartment while major works were being carried out at our family home and chose it specifically because it appeared to be in a quiet, professional area of Leam Spa.Unfortunately, our experience was very different from what we expected. On arrival, and again on subsequent evenings, groups of men were congregating in the courtyard area smoking what appeared to be cannabis. The smell was extremely strong and unavoidable when entering and leaving the property.In addition, there were late-night gatherings and noise disturbances which made it difficult to sleep. As two working professionals needing to be up early each morning, and travelling with our 15-year-old daughter, we did not feel the environment was appropriate or comfortable for our family.The apartment was presented reasonably well, however the surrounding environment significantly impacted our stay. We decided to leave before the end of our booking.Following our complaint, we were only refunded the unused nights after our departure. Whilst this was described as a gesture of goodwill, we believe it simply reflected the fact that we were unable to continue our stay due to circ beyond our control.We appreciate the host’s responses once the issues were raised, but prospective guests should be aware that our experience did not reflect the peaceful and family-friendly stay we were expecting.It is important to note that you will not get a refund for unused nights if it happens to you.
