The large suit

I needed a room large enough for about six people to sleep. My son had to have surgery at the next morning and I found this room. It was humongous!!! It felt like a two bedroom apartment. It could have been a little cleaner there was something sticky on the door like soda spray or something, but it was perfect for our one night stage my family. Since we have to come back to Shriners often, I will probably use this property more. The security guards that are patrolling constantly make you feel safe.

The imports parts were fine.

Actually the lobby and the room were fine. Clean and comfortable. The exterior was very poor, all movement to the room is outdoors and it was raining. Stairs, walkways were 1 star. Felt a bit unsafe. It is NOT downtown.

I typically do not leave reviews on hotels/motels as I currently work in full service hotels for 30 years, but I have to say something about my stay at the Howard Johnson by Wyndham Sacramento Downtown. We stayed at this motel just to have somewhere to lay my head down (we were driving from Seattle, WA to San Diego, CA). We have stayed in places this price range previously, but these other places were at least clean. The room was dirty (room 129,in front of the pool), in no other terms. There were dried up liquid stains on the front door, dark finger type smears on the latch lock, bath tub was dirty, red stains on base boards in bathroom, unpopped popcorn seeds on bathroom floor, all corners in bathroom had dirt and debris, stains on the vent above toilet, yellow stains on bathroom door.....and the icing on the cake...a live roach climbing on the wall above the double beds with an egg sack attached to it. There is an infestation in this room. I was too tired to complain about it. We left promptly in the morning. I have pictures of everything that I just detailed.

Spent 6 nights from 25th Jan to 30th January 2025 in this hotel. Not even a single day during my stay the ever came back to check my room do the guest need new towels or coffee packs nothing. Not even pick the trash out of my room. I never complain before like I’m doing right now. Top of that shower is cold. But anyway life moves on!

We were scheduled to stay there so at check in my friend was inspecting the sheets and the mattresses and found the sheet in our room had stains on it. We took a photo of it and requested another room. The property manager and the Lead Housekeeping Team Member went with us to the new room provided to us, which is fair. But when the property manager criticized and was in a seeming disbelief when we were looking under the mattress protector (which is the best practice of doing this by the way) and assuaged our concerns with stating that they found bed bugs five months ago (granted they took care of it), the way they didn’t want us looking under the mattress protector and initially wrote off our concerns about the stains by saying we photographed the mattress (which we didn’t, the sheets are really that thin and showed the bamboo print on the mattress when photographed with flash), it was clear that guests’ concerns were not being taken seriously. The cleaning team is awesome and they were super courteous and polite to us even as we left the property to find another place to stay from the parking lot. The manager’s treatment of us was the issue.

We were SO grateful to find a hotel with a suite that offered beds for our whole family! We have 3 teenage boys and everyone slept comfortably. There were 2 bathrooms, a king bed, 2 doubles, and a couch that converted into a double bed. Staff was helpful, friendly, and efficient. The general area was plagued with homelessness, but the hotel had security onsite to increase safety. Location was very convenient to our events at Old Sacramento waterfront and the State Capitol. Our room also had a beautiful view of the river.

1 lamp in room did not work. 1 lamp in the room flickered on/off. There was no fan option for aircon. I tried to call front desk, but room phone did not have option. Phone dial tone was also intermittently working. There was a stain on my bed sheet. The toilet didn’t flush well. TV had a line thru the screen, as you world find/see if the TV was damaged. Remote worked intermittently, I’m assuming low batteries. I was greeted by a long line when I arrived, waiting about 15 minutes before I was helped. Outside, my room/stairwell smelled like urine. The shower/water preassure was great. I will not stay here ever again.

I am surprised to see such poorly managed wyndham property. Its very old hotel and not well managed. I didn't feel the surrounding safe enough for my family. There was heavy smoke and weed smell around the hotel and on staircase as well. Disappointed with my one night stay decision.

We knew we would arrive after midnight so we booked a room for that day. But when we arrived we were told that their system still counts that as the day before. And of course the booking could not be changed but we were told we could get a refund. So we booked another room at a higher price. And wouldn't you know it? Turns out a refund is not possible. So we paid almost $200 to stay 8 hours at a mediocre hotel. Not coming back there
