Tucked away on a working farm in the quiet Essex hamlet of Wimbish, this beautifully restored barn conversion is the kind of retreat that reminds you what slowing down actually feels like. Rolling farmland stretches out in every direction, the nights are properly dark, and the only soundtrack is birdsong. Just minutes from the medieval market town of Saffron Walden - and less than half an hour from Cambridge - you’re blissfully removed from the world without being cut off from it.

Step inside and the barn announces itself immediately. Soaring vaulted ceilings flood the open-plan living space with light and air, while the warm palette of carefully chosen materials - quality fittings, rich textures, considered design - strikes that rare balance between rustic soul and contemporary comfort.

Sink into the deep sofa, light the wood burner, and let the evening take its time. The flat-screen TV is there if you want it, but you may find you don’t.

The kitchen has been fitted for those who take cooking seriously - induction hob, oven, Quooker tap, and a proper coffee machine, all set against elegant countertops with plenty of room to move. Prepare a long, leisurely dinner and bring it to the dining table as the fire crackles beside you.

The bedroom is unhurried and deeply comfortable. A king-size bed dressed in hotel-quality linens sits at its centre, soft lighting wraps the room in warmth, and robes and slippers are waiting for you. The en-suite bathroom offers a full bath with shower over - everything you need, nothing superfluous.

The Garden is where the magic happens. Throw open the bi-fold doors and step into one of the most memorable outdoor spaces in the region.

At the heart of the private garden, beneath a timber pagoda and open to the stars, sits a hand-beaten copper tub - filled, hot, and yours. There is genuinely nothing quite like lowering yourself into warm water as the farmland air settles around you and the sky darkens above. It is not a feature. It is an experience.

When you’re ready, wrap yourself in your robe and pull a chair up to the fire pit. Watch the flames. Refill your glass. There is nowhere else you need to be.

The garden itself is beautifully kept - manicured lawn, well-tended beds, and the kind of green quiet that city life rarely offers.

Wimbish sits at the edge of some of Essex’s most unspoilt countryside, with footpaths and quiet lanes ideal for morning walks or afternoon cycles. Cambridge is a leisurely 25-minute drive; spend a morning in the museums and a lazy afternoon punting on the Cam.
