Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire is the fifth-largest city in the Pays de la Loire region, in the Loire-Atlantique département. It lies on the banks of the Loire, just four kilometers from Nantes. An ancient Celtic settlement, it was later dominated by the Gallo-Romans. A former stronghold of the Duchy of Brittany, Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire became part of the French kingdom in the early 16th century. Although it is now urbanized, the commune has long been an important market-gardening center, particularly for wheat and vines.
