About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
Howard's Hideaway Riverfront Pet Friendly Cabin
Summary:
Wake up to the sound of rustling trees and rushing water at this stunning cedar cabin perched directly on a gentle channel of the Sandy River. With a wraparound deck, fire table, hammock, and endless forest views, your Mt. Hood adventure starts right outside the door. With Cascadia Getaways you'll have professional care and 24/7 support.
The Space:
Escape to Howard's Hideaway — a beautifully appointed cedar cabin tucked into towering Alder and Cedar groves of the Mt. Hood foothills, sitting right on the banks of the Sandy River. Whether you're here to fish, hike, ski, or simply unplug, this property delivers the full Pacific Northwest experience for up to 8 guests.
The Cabin
Step through the front door and you're immediately wrapped in warm wood tones and cozy cabin character. The open living and dining area flows seamlessly to a fully stocked chef's kitchen with everything you need: stainless appliances, a dishwasher, blender, coffee maker, wine glasses, and all the cookware to prep a proper feast after a day on the mountain. The main floor also features a dedicated dining table that seats the whole group.
The cabin sleeps 6 across three well-appointed bedrooms with fresh linens provided. Two full bathrooms — including one with a soaking bathtub — keep morning routines running smoothly for the whole crew.
The Outdoor Living
This is where Howard's Hideaway truly shines. A massive wraparound deck extends the living space outdoors, furnished with premium wicker lounge seating and a propane fire table — perfect for evenings under the stars. Steps from the deck, a gentle channel of the Sandy River runs crystal clear over mossy rocks, framing a lush green lawn where a hammock sways between the trees. Adirondack chairs are positioned right at the water's edge for lazy afternoons with a book (or a fishing rod). A dedicated BBQ grill means alfresco dinners are a given. The fenced back yard makes this a truly dog-friendly destination. The home honors the owner's late Great Dane, Howard, who have made the home welcoming to canine guests.
The Bonus Space
The property includes a bonus room giving groups an extra space to gather, play, and unwind on any cooler and showery PNW evenings.
The Practicalities
A full washer and dryer, free on-site parking and high-speed WiFi mean this property works equally well for weekend adventurers and those looking to extend their stay.
Guest Access:
Guests have full, private access to the entire property including the cabin, all three bedrooms, two bathrooms, full kitchen, game room, wraparound deck, yard, fire pit area, BBQ, hammock, and direct river access. Free parking is available on the gravel driveway on premises.
The Neighborhood:
Howard's Hideaway sits on Marmot Road in the Sandy River corridor — a legendary stretch of Oregon's Mt. Hood Territory where old-growth forest meets world-class outdoor recreation. You are in the heart of it all.
Water & Fishing: The Sandy River — a 56-mile Columbia River tributary — is one of Oregon's most storied steelhead and salmon rivers. The river and its tributaries run practically through your backyard, offering excellent year-round angling. Nearby Cedar Creek hosts a fish hatchery, and the stretch around Marmot Road is renowned for winter steelhead (March–May) and fall Chinook.
Mt. Hood Adventures: Timberline Lodge and Mt. Hood Meadows ski resort are approximately 25–30 minutes up the mountain. In summer, the same roads lead to Ramona Falls, Mirror Lake, Trillium Lake, Little Zigzag Falls, and dozens of hiking and mountain biking trails.
Sandy Ridge Trail System: World-class mountain biking just minutes away, with trails suited for all skill levels.
Jonsrud Viewpoint: A local favorite just minutes toward town in Sandy — sweeping panoramic views of Mt. Hood and the Sandy River Valley, perfect for a quick sunrise stop.
Wildwood Recreation Site: A beloved nature park in nearby Welches with walking paths, the Cascade Streamwatch, and interpretive trails great for families.
The Town of Sandy: About 15 minutes west, Sandy is a charming small town with local restaurants, breweries, coffee shops, grocery stores, and everything you need to stock up before heading into the forest.
Portland: For those wanting a city day, downtown Portland is approximately 45 minutes west on US-26 — home to world-class food, Powell's Books, the Oregon Zoo, and the vibrant Pearl District.
Getting Around:
A car is required and recommended for exploring the area. Ample free parking is available at the property. US-26 (the Mt. Hood Corridor) is the main artery connecting you to Sandy, Welches, Government Camp, Timberline Lodge, and Hood River beyond the mountain. The drive itself through the Mt. Hood National Forest is scenic year-round.
Other Things to Note:
- The property is surrounded by mature forest and sits directly on a the Sandy River — the sound of running water is ever-present and magical, but guests should supervise children near the water.
- Pet friendly with applicable pet fee. Dogs only, no cats.
