200-Year-Old Riverfront Farmhouse – Historic Smoky Mountain Retreat

Stay in an authentic 200-year-old Appalachian farmhouse with genuine late 1700s mountain architecture. Located in the historic community of Pittman Center on the Little Pigeon River and just 15 minutes from Gatlinburg, this rustic retreat offers both history and comfort. Expect creaky doors, antique furnishings, and the quirks of an old house — but also all the modern conveniences to make your stay comfortable. It’s a one-of-a-kind place for couples or anyone who wants to experience a real Smoky Mountain stay.

This farmhouse has been in my family for decades and carries the character of a true Appalachian home. Inside, you’ll find:
   •   1 bedroom with a double bed and antique furnishings. (Queen air mattress available for living room.)
   •   1 bathroom with a classic clawfoot tub, plus a hand-held shower extension.
   •   Outdoor shower with hot water, attached to the back of the bedroom (just a few steps outside, primary shower experience).
   •   A cozy living room with plenty of books and original art — the perfect spot to relax or even write the Great American novel! (Can accommodate queen sized mattress.)
   •   A full kitchen with all the essentials for just about any kind of meal.
   •   A front porch antique glider — ideal for slow mornings or lazy afternoons on the porch.

The farmhouse sits on 3.5 acres, set back from the road and surrounded by a rolling field and mature trees. You’ll have privacy, seclusion, and no visible neighbors. Guests enjoy private river access for fishing, wading, or just sitting and letting time slow down. There’s also a forest walking path on the property and even a 1958 Cameo pickup truck that makes a great photo backdrop. As the seasons change, the riverfront and trees make this a beautiful spot to unwind.

What Makes This Place Unique:
   •   A 200-year-old home with genuine late 1700s Appalachian architecture
   •   Antique furniture and decor throughout
   •   River rock and mud fireplace — rare to see outside the national park
   •   A blend of rustic quirks and modern comforts including Wi-Fi, central heat and air, plenty of hot water with great water pressure, and washer/dryer available.

Convenience:
While the farmhouse feels secluded, it’s close to everything you need. It’s about 15 minutes to Gatlinburg, and 20–25 minutes to Pigeon Forge and the Super Walmart. Local restaurants and grocery stores are only a short drive away, and there’s even a back way into Pigeon Forge to help avoid traffic.

Guest Access:
Guests have the entire farmhouse and surrounding property to themselves, including the private stretch of river. I live nearby on the same property and am available if you need anything — but I respect your privacy.

Other Things to Note:
   •   This is a rustic, historic home — expect quirks along with charm.
   •   The outdoor shower is the main shower; the indoor clawfoot tub has a hand-held extension.
   •   Our outdoor cat, Izzo, roams the property. Please let us know if you have allergies.

Why Stay Here:
If you’re looking for a polished, modern rental, this isn’t it. But if you value history, authenticity, and the soul of an old Appalachian farmhouse, this place is unforgettable. It’s close to Gatlinburg, Dollywood, and Anakeesta, and only 10 minutes to the Greenbrier entrance of Great Smoky Mountains National Park — making it the perfect base for both relaxation and exploration.
