Very disappointing and unacceptable experience We had a very bad experience at this boutique (Angkor Land Urban Botique) hotel in Siem Reap. There were bed bugs in the room, as well as damp and musty areas, which made the room feel unhealthy and unsafe. We did not stay in the room and immediately informed the staff, showed them photos, and explained the situation. We were given another room, but unfortunately it was not any better. While the staff tried to help, the overall condition of the hotel rooms is catastrophic and potentially a health risk. Despite the fact that we did not stay even one night, no refund was offered. We had booked through Expedia, and even they did not receive approval for a refund from the hotel. The hotel showed no willingness to resolve the situation and kept the full amount for three nights. We are extremely disappointed by the lack of responsibility and customer care and strongly advise against staying at this hotel.

On the surface this hotel is fine. It’s clean, the vast majority of staff are friendly and it is in a good location. That’s basically all the positives. The hotel is very dated. Some room features are in desperate need of an upgrade, whilst others are just not present all. The breakfast was also basic and covered in flies. We booked a room which was supposed to have a TV, city view etc. None of these were present. Apparently all the rooms have had TVs removed as “everyone now uses a smartphone”. We could have seen past this if other basic features worked as expected (such as the door opening on the first attempt - rather than having to stand in corridor for several minutes waiting for the key to work). When these issues were raised, the manager promised complimentary laundry to compensate. We were happy with this and the rest of our 3 night stay was fine. Upon checking out, the manager point blank denied that he made this promise over the phone, leaving us no choice but to pay for the laundry, as we needed to catch a bus. This dishonesty, coupled with the untruthful and inadequate room facilities tainted our stay and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The majority of the staff at this hotel were more than happy to help whilst we were here and were very friendly. It is a shame that the customer service skills from management are not great. We booked this based on the good score it had but we are honestly not sure how this hotel has obtained such a good score…

The bed was huge, the linens were crisp, and we enjoyed some of the best sleep of our trip. However, the quality of the accommodations and service for the price is truly unbeatable in Siem Reap.

There was some refurbishment work taking place close to my room, which I was notified of by a printed note in the room. The noise was not much of a problem as it was taking place during the day. There were flickering lights in places, the bed was quite hard and uncomfortable, but as I was only staying 2 nights I made do. The breakfast offering was ok, but generally the facilities were good. Staff were helpful when I needed assistance.

I really don’t understand why this hotel has such a high rating. On the first day we checked in, we found a gecko in the room, and it was making very loud noises. We had to go downstairs to the front desk for help because there was no telephone in the room. A male staff member came with a can of insect spray. We asked to change rooms, but the next day we found another gecko in the new room as well. On the third day at noon, when we returned to the room, we noticed that although the room had been cleaned, the towels had not been replaced. Later in the afternoon, when we went out again, we informed the staff and asked them to change the towels, and they agreed. However, when we came back to the room in the evening and were about to take a shower, we only realized after taking off our clothes that the towels still had not been changed. We had no choice but to get dressed again and go down to the front desk to complain. Overall, this hotel has very outdated facilities and the service is far from satisfactory.

The manager did try to correct any inefficiencies with our room and we were moved 3x. The last room we didn’t want to say anything but the bed was hard and we had no wifi on the floor we were moved. The breakfast was good. The dinner we had not so much. There were some translation misunderstandings when it came to English. Some of the staff could be better trained.

RATS AND RAT DROPPINGS IN ROOMS. No refund offered EVEN THOUGH WE DID NOT STAY EVEN 1 NIGHT AT THIS HOTEL. 0 accountability. TERRIBLE communication. Stay at the Marriott. Well worth the extra money. Staff were lovely, friendly & helpful, but definetley need more training in dealing with international guests. Sadly the breakfast was cold, but was better the next morning after I complained. The TV had no English / Movie channel which is important for some guests after spending the day exploring. It’s a stunning hotel with a superb pool area, the staff just need to be trained properly.
