Summary:
Stone house of 83 m3 set in a quiet natural environment in the outskirt of Exambela. It consists of 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room with open kitchen and a veranda with breathtaking views on Kastro, the surrounding valley, the sea and the Cyclades.
The Space:
The house has been reconstructed from its foundations at the location of an old “themonia” (small farm-house). Authentic Cycladic materials (stone, wood) and techniques have been used to build it, which gives the feeling of a simple, primitive house while providing all needed modern amenities and comfort. The furniture, combining traditional and modern elements, reinforce this feeling.
The house is surrounded by fields and olive groves, and boasts a cycladic garden of 1000 m2 on three different levels: fig trees, pomegranate trees, thyme, sage, lavender, bougainvillea, capers, mint, grape, oregano, jasmin, pricky pears, olive trees. In the garden, stone benches and sunbeds are available in the shade of the stone walls and an olive tree, offering a privileged sense of privacy and tranquility.
The house is surrounded by narrow pathways which are not suitable for most cars. However, it is easily accessible from the main road (5 min walk) and a free parking space is available next to the house for motorcycles or quads.
It is an ideal getaway for families and people looking for a calm place and willing to enjoy an authentic Cycladic experience. It is important to note, though, that while the veranda is fenced, it is not the case of the garden. The garden is not suitable for young kids without surveillance.
The Neighborhood:
While boasting unobstructed views and offering a unique sense of privacy, the house is located at the entrance of the village of Exambela, only 5 minutes away from the road from Apollonia to Faros, with easy street parking. Through pathways, the mini market of Exambela can be reached in 10 minutes walk and the main pedestrian path of Apollonia, with shops and restaurants in 20 minutes.
The closest beaches, Fassolou, Faros, Chrysopigi and Platis Gialos are accessible by car in about 10 minutes.
If you enjoy hiking, Seralia and Eftamartyres, close to Kastro, are reachable through picturesque trails in 40 minutes walk.
Other beautiful pathways, popular among the walkers, lead to the rest of the island: villages, mountainous areas, beaches, etc. More info can be found on Sifnos Trails.
