A slice of heaven

Three friends and myself stayed at the Windmill at Anemomili for five nights. We loved the drive up to Sitia that grew more and more wild and beautiful. The windmill is magical. Extremely comfortable and put together with so much care, artistry and love. The hosts were proactive and keen to ensure that we had a good time, giving us a lot of ideas of what to do. We had some beautiful beach days (Vai and Itanos are fabulous), and also visited Toplou monastery and some of the archeological sites. We loved a supper at Retro in Palekastro - great local food at reasonable prices. We also cooked in a lot and the kitchen was easy to use and had everything we needed. There is no shop/mini market in Agria Fotia so you must do your food shopping in Sitia or Palekastro. That side of the coast is quite wild, and swimming in the beaches very close to the windmill is not great unless the day is very calm. But, there are such beautiful beaches not far away that that shouldn't be a concern. Thank you to our hosts - we loved every moment of our time there.

Windmill holiday great experience

A very unusual and quirky place to stay, it has been converted to a comfortable holiday home on a number of levels ( so you need to have full mobility). Our host was very warm and welcoming and we had some very interesting conversations. the beds were very comfortable , the kitchen was well equipped too. It was a peaceful location set in beautiful gardens off the main road but it was very easy to visit the next village of Palekastro for shopping and eating in the tavernas. Not far into Siteia if you want a busier place. The courtyard is a lovely place to sit to take in the atmosphere. We would recommend for couples and small groups. If you enjoy touring and exploring there are some lovely beaches within 20 to 50 minutes drives depending on your choices. If you like quiet and peaceful beaches try Itanos and Xerocampos. A great holiday, will return.

Perfect stay at a perfect property

The Anomemili rental is on a beautiful estate with a view of the ocean. It was comfortable, the hosts were caring and fixed anything that needed fixing right away. I was welcomed by Lefetris and Despina with cookies and they checked in periodically to see I had no problems. The place itself is immaculate with a weekly cleaner. The grounds are a delight. In short, I will probably go back because it was a perfect place.

Lovely and relaxing

My husband and I have just enjoyed a lovely and relaxing week in this beautiful windmill. It’s lovely and secluded so would recommend a car if you want to explore the island but equally if you just want to relax the surroundings are simply beautiful. The windmill is decorated with so much attention to detail and has everything you need to enjoy your stay. The owners are lovely and we enjoyed talking to them too. All in all a wonderful week and we would definitely recommend.

Didn't want to leave

Such a beautiful property perfect for a relaxing holiday away. Lefteris was a wonderful host, it was great to have a chat with him here and there and sample some fruit from his orchard on site. The veranda is gorgeous with a nice view of the sea perfect for having your meals or just hanging out, with the wind it's cool almost all day. The rooms inside are simple but have everything you need - do be aware that there are stairs going into each room. This property is most ideal for people looking to relax in a serene environment away from the usual tourist sites, you definitely need a car to get around. That being said, Sitia is less than 10 min away, it's quite charming with a nice promenade full of bars and restaurants. The only thing I regret is that I didn't stay here longer.

Relaxing and beautiful place to stay

The windmill was perfect for our family, beautifully furnished and with amazing scenery in a quiet location. Communication with the host (and his father who showed us in and gave us his top tips) was excellent. We loved day trips to Spinalonga and the beaches on the South coast, around 20-30 minutes drive away from the windmill. We also had lots of good meals in Sitia and around Sitia, particularly at Inodion, To Limani and Elena’s in Palaikastron. You will need a car but the drives along the coast are spectacular! Kids loved the cats too.

Perfect Spot

Windmill stay

This quirky, lovely old windmill situated in a lovely garden and olive grove is a relaxing and beautiful place to stay. Its close to the small town of Sitea, the stunning East coast beaches and the mountains and so there is plenty to do and see.

Beautiful windmill- perfectly appointed with wonderful hosts.

We had such a wonderful time at the windmill. It’s a great base from which to explore the east on Crete. The windmill was beautiful- clean and comfortable, with everything you could need. Pantelis sent us very useful and informative emails prior to our stay and Lefteris gave us lots of tips about where to go and was a fountain of Cretan knowledge. There was plenty of space for the children to play including some sweet little swings. It was just lovely- we highly recommend it!

Cretan Hospitality

Cretan hospitality is legendary, and a stay in the windmill is a great way to experience it. Everyone in the family welcomed me, and with quiet kindness made sure I had a good time. Agia Fotia is well situated as a base to explore the easternmost part of Crete, which is full of history and wild beauty. Neaby Sitia provides all the necessaries, together with an excellent little archeological museum and a lively harbor area. The windmill itself is charmingly furnished and fully equipped, and has an ample veranda that is shaded almost all day long. Two imporant notes: (1) a car is a must; and (2) the windmill may not be suitable for persons with reduced mobility or visual impairment. It is on 4 levels, with the master bedroom and the single bathroom separated by 3-1/2 flights of spiral stone staircases, with no railings. However, the second bedroom and the bathroom are on the same level with only two steps up to the level of the kitchen and veranda, Highly recommended.

Lovely house, actually an old windmill done up very nicely. The garden is great, with a swing and climbing trees for the kids, and fresh lemons right from the orchard! Very nice people, checkin and checkout with no hassle. They even made us some cakes :)

Séjour fantastique dans un lieu exceptionnel

nous avons passé 6 jours reposants dans le moulin. La décoration est soignée, l'endroit très propre et bien aménagé. Le papa du propriétaire habite derrière le moulin et est disponible pour donner beaucoup d'information sur les endroits à visiter , la crète et ses coutumes. C'est un endroit un peu hors du temps, à 10mn en voiture de Sitia . Nous recommandons aux amoureux d'authenticité...

Lovely restored windmill with seaview

Wonderful holydays !

3 months in this beautiful mill were really fantastic ! We enjoyed everything and were spécially happy about the situation, the quality and the originality of the spot. Great period, still fresh and often we were the only strange strangers ! We made a warm fire everyday and had great instructive conversations with Lefteris and Kate. Unforgetable holydays and we recomand absolutely !

Erholsame Tage im Oktober

Wir hatten eine schöne, erholsame Woche in der schön renovierten Windmühle. Der Besitzer wohnt direkt hinter der Windmühle und es befinden sich noch 3 weitere geschmackvolle Ferienhäuser auf dem großen, gepflegten Grundstück. Wir haben uns jedoch zu keiner Zeit gestört gefühlt. Der Besitzer ist ein sehr freundlicher Herr, er spricht hervorragend Englisch. In dem großen Garten waren gerade die Granatäpfel reif und wir durften uns jeden Morgen einen zum Frühstück holen, herrlich!!! Die Windmühle ist, wie beschrieben, auf 3 Ebenen, nur Kinderzimmer und Bad haben Türen. Leider war über dem Ehebett kein Moskitonetz und die kleinen Viecher fanden trotz Gitter vor den Fenstern immer wieder den Weg zu uns. Was sehr lästig war!! Auch muss man bei Nacht einen guten Schlaf haben, da die Holztreppe zum Schlafbereich extrem laut knarrt wenn einer zur Toilette geht. Stört selbst im Kinderzimmer. Die Betten selber sind sehr bequem. Der Küchenbereich hatte schon deutliche Abnutzungsspuren an den Schränken und den Gegenständen. Dies hat uns jedoch nicht wirklich gestört da wir in der Regel außer Frühstück nichts weiteres in der Küche zubereiteten. Das Bad ist klein aber sehr schön, vielleicht noch 2 weiter Hacken für die Handtücher wäre toll. Im Außenbereich ist viel Platz und es war zu der Jahreszeit herrlich ruhig so das wir uns gut vorstellen können erneut dort unseren Urlaub zu verbringen, jedoch dann eher in den hübschen kleinen Ferienhäusern auf dem Grundstück.

Sehr empfehlenswerte Ferienwohnung in alter Windmühle

Großartige Unterkunft mit wunderschöner und liebevoll dekorierter Außenanlage. Die Vermieter wohnen gegenüber und sind total nett und hilfsbereit und geben wertvolle Tipps. Nur das wirklich schöne Bad ist ein bisschen klein. Wir hatten eine tolle Zeit und fühlten uns rundherum wohl. Auch die Katzen sind total süß und haben uns jeden morgen und abend begrüßt.
