I didnāt stay here although I had booked and no one notified me that the hotel was actually closed! I booked it as it appeared on the website to be close to the station, so I walked with my bag and suitcase from the station⦠I sat in the derelict beer garden on the pavement side of the hotel. I phoned the number on the web, to be told by a polite young lady that her colleague would call me. He did call to say I had been āupgradedā to the sister hotel due to flooding in some rooms. He tried to explain how to get to the āsisterā hotel⦠which was the shepherds rest. He ordered a taxi, the taxi driver certainly could not speak or understand English š³.. I told him the hotel would pay, but he insisted that I paid, and wouldnāt accept Scottish currency despite the fact that it is legal tender in the UK. The Shepherds rest only deserves a mention because Jamie tries his very best! If I ran a business I would employ someone like him!
He did give me a complimentary drink, considering I paid for the taxi. I asked if I could have supper there.. he asked if I had brought food as they have no restaurant!! I certainly did not have the energy to walk into the Center of town at Sowerby Bridge⦠so I gave supper a miss. The smart TV was good⦠I couldnāt close the velux style window and hoped it wouldnāt rain on the newly refurbished āupgradedā room. If I didnāt have a sense of humour I would be furious⦠cest La vie!!! Highly recommend Jamie⦠niether hotel though, sadlyā¦
