This is a gem -- famly run hotel (couple and their seven children!), in a historical hotel (100+ year old which was a restaurant and many other things over its history). Judy Garland used to stay there in the 1930s. Lots of history. But more importantly, it's relaxed and feels like you're staying in a family house with a family who stays out of your way unless you need help, in which case they are very helpful. I've seen comments about the bathroom situation. What I can say is I stayed there two different times, and the shared bathroom was not a problem at all. Maybe it's because overall the hotel was not very occupied. I can see if it was fully booked it might be a bit of an issue but also understand that some rooms have their own or a shared bathroom, which means that the communal bathroom doesn't have everyone using it. Also I believe every room has its own sink and mirror, so you can wash face/brush teeth in your own room. I felt the hotel was very clean while also feeling old and historic. If there's a downside it's that the town of Springer is pretty dead, and you'll have a hard time getting a meal at night nearby. Overall I'd totally stay here again and would recommend that you try it if you're in the area.

You’ve been warned.

Definitely put me in the worst room they had. Could not even sleep in the queen it was busted and sagging. Don’t let them put you in maple room. Always felt as though I was bothering when I had a question, which was mostly to not damage property further. Didn’t seem to be concerned or care. It wasn’t worth $35.

Springer Station is in the historic Brown Hotel where Judy Garland filmed scenes for "the Harvey Girls" long ago. It is an old-style hotel run by a delightful family and has clean comfortable rooms and areas to sit, have coffee, and read. I was in a shared bath, which takes some flexibility, but worked out just fine. My room had its own sink. The hotel is linked to the railroad era of the Santa Fe as Springer was a transfer station, and many train personnel stayed at the Brown. The family also runs the Depot restaurant in town, where I had the best steak in 20 years! I highly recommend this site for a stay.

It’s clean. Rates are very reasonable. Shared bathrooms so kind of weird there but for the price it’s ok. The door inside no restaurants, no food except for some $2.00 snacks and drinks

So many issues with this hotel: owner’s dogs were noisy, shared dirty bathroom with other guests, no way to control temperature in room- became uncomfortably warm, did not provide drinking cups in room or ice, rooms were all up a long flight of stairs. In general, hotel needed major repairs and cleaning. But if all you want is a bed for sleeping, then this is your place.

Old two story hotel. Clean, quiet. White noise air filter. One shared bathroom for the entire upstairs and the windows have been painted shut for many years. Lots of charter and part of the Depot restaurant 3 blocks North.

There are many people who have overly inflated expectations of what a hotel stay should be. The Springer Station takes those expectations and turns them on their head with a very characterful and charming experience. Sure, it's a shared bathroom place and the door knob on your room turns the wrong way but don't let that detract from the eclectic experience of staying in this historic building. The staff were pleasant enough, busying themselves with Halloween trick or treaters that evening. The facilities in the hotel were good with excellent Wifi. Lots of food options to buy for good prices downstairs ($1 a soda) The place was very quiet, not many folk staying this evening and I didn't see the owners / staff again after checking in but this never bothered me. There was something strange about our one night stay here...I can't quite place it. Perhaps it was the quiet town, the emptiness of the place, the whole creaky floor old building deal? Who knows but I enjoyed my experience here none the less. If you want something unusual and interesting then book this place but if you want a generic chain hotel experience - it's probably best to look elsewhere. I for one, love something different and I won't forget about my stay in Springer Station Hotel.
