No Power Outages Here! Private Apt. with Water View/Gorgeous Location for 2

Stonegarden Cottage came through hurricanes Irma and Maria undamaged and the interior on the cottage is virtually the same as before the storms. We have repaired, restored or replaced mostly all exterior features, including solar panels, railings, fences, and our beautiful gardens and nature trails.

Back-up Power: The island's power company has been struggling since the hurricanes, and there are frequent island-wide outages, sometimes for several hours a day (the longest recent outage was 29 hours in August 2019). So, we installed a Tesla Powerwall back-up battery for our solar panels which means you will not even notice when the power goes out on island. There will be no noisy generator to spoil your peace and quiet. And the best thing is that you will not have to run around in the dark looking for flashlights, or refrain from using the water for doing dishes and showering, because you will have power to use the lights, water, fans, refrigeration, stove and oven, etc.

Stonegarden Cottage consists of upper and lower levels which can be rented together or separately, sleeping two to eight guests. Christmas and New Year's Weeks: Whole House only, 7 night minimum stay required.

Stonegarden Cottage offers you a private retreat where you will enjoy your dream vacation on Saint John in the US Virgin Islands. Offering the privacy, comfort and views of a villa, this unique rental home beckons many of our loyal guests back year after year. Upgraded Nov. 2016 and August 2018 with all new windows & screens, decks, interior decor, and an enlarged and fully tiled bathroom, re-tiled floors and rebuilt kitchenette in the lower level.

This beautiful St. John vacation rental offers a gorgeous island view and on-site nature trails, close proximity to pristine National Park Beaches and restaurants and shops of Coral Bay - the peaceful side of St. John.

The cottage nestles within a shady, tropical forest, high up the steep slopes of St. John's Bordeaux Mountain. At the foot of the mountain lies picturesque Coral Bay harbor; beyond unfolds a panorama of peninsulas, islands, beaches and glowing turquoise channels that run east as far as Virgin Gorda and the Anegada Passage. This is the view Islands Magazine chose as the top spot in the world to watch the sunrise of the new millennium.

The Upper and Lower Levels of the cottage can be rented together or separately.

Lower Level: For a couple looking for a combination of affordability and comfort, Stonegarden Cottage's recently renovated downstairs unit is a perfect choice. Private and quiet, this charming apartment with stained-glass windows and beautiful views to the harbor is equipped with a fully stocked newly built kitchenette -- microwave, hotel-size refrigerator, deep-freeze, and full size double-sink. The beautiful, fully tiled bathroom, charming antiques, art and hand-carved 4 poster Balinese bed make this an extra special retreat for two.
Enjoy the comfortable amenities of our newly renovated Lower Level, with its queen-sized bed, private bath with shower, dining table and chairs, reading chair and lamp, double bureau, hanging-clothes closet, as well as a dining deck with bistro-table and chairs, air-conditioning, grill and gardens with awesome harbor view and direct access to the trails of Guavaberry Woods.

The lower level was remodeled August 2018, as has a completely new kitchenette, new larger and fully tiled bathroom, and new tile floor throughout. The unit has its own separate entrance, driveway and parking space. It was built under the deck of the Upper Level, and has a cypress panel ceiling, giving the studio great insulation from any sound from above. Even though you will hardly know that there's anyone sharing the house with you, the upstairs guests are typically warm, friendly, and respect your privacy.

Onsite Nature Trails: The best of St. John's natural beauty and astonishing biodiversity lies on-site at your doorstep. The large (2/3 acre) hillside property is an ecological wonderland that invites wandering -- beautiful hand-crafted stone paths and gravel trails on several different levels lead you through the lush hardwood foliage of Guavaberry Woods.

Cool Retreat: Steady tradewinds, an easterly view and the lush surrounding forest make Stonegarden Cottage a comfortable tropical getaway year-round -- cool, quiet and peaceful. After a day on blazing white sand beaches or out on the glittering sea, it is delightful to return up the mountain to your forest retreat, savor a frozen drink while enjoying the view or gaze into a lily pond while hearing the breeze rustle the treetops.

NOTE: A 4-wheel drive vehicle is required in order to rent this unit (unless you are going carless) due to the need for a higher wheel-base to use the driveway.

I wanted to love this place

The apartment is cute with a beautiful view, and has a great location in Coral Bay. However, I experienced a few mishaps during my stay. Before I arrived I received detailed instructions for the property, which I read in full. However, they did not specifically mention how I would enter the property (ie. key or code). It wasn't a big deal, but when I asked about it, the owner sent me the following: "I sent you all the instructions about your arrival in the previous email. There is no code to enter the residence. Please read the arrival instructions thoroughly, and let me know if you have any other questions." I did not feel it was necessary to respond this way to a simple question. Second, the garbage can in the kitchen was full of trash upon my arrival. I contacted the property manager, but unfortunately no one showed up to take out the trash within 24 hours. I ended up taking it out myself, since I had nowhere to throw my own trash. Third, the property description advertises that you cannot hear any noise from the unit above. I did not find this to be true. I had a group of six stay above me, and they were quite rowdy the first night, so I could hear everything. My husband could even hear them over Facetime when I spoke to him. The owner did address this and the noise improved greatly. That said, I could still hear normal movements, like doors and drawers closing and chairs scraping the deck, so I don't find it accurate to say there is no noise at all. Finally, on one of my last mornings I woke up to a "mahogany bug" in the kitchen sink that was about two inches big. I at this point opted to stay on the other side of the island for my last night because I'd simply had enough. I do feel like this adorably decorated unit has the potential to offer a lovely escape, but unfortunately that was not my experience.

Relaxing stay

Lovely place- even better than listed. We would definitely stay again. However before you commit, it is important to know that the owner requires car rental. This made it a much more expensive vacation than we anticipated as rental prices were exorbitant .

Beautiful Home, Breathtaking Views

We just want to say thank-you for opening up your beautiful island home! We spent a week in the lower level of Stonegarden Cottage and highly recommend it. The studio is very comfortable, has everything needed, easy to fix meals in, and has breathtaking views!! Eating outside on the private patio looking down island was just so relaxing. First visit since the storms – the beaches are beautiful and the water clear. Lots of turtles at Maho Crossing. Lime out has amazing tacos. Grouper Reuben at Miss Lucy's was delicious, as was the pizza at St John Brewer's Tap Room. Love Coral Bay side of the island. Pickles in Paradise just closed, other than Miss Lucy’s Sunday Brunch there were no longer breakfast options on Coral Bay side; so plan to either drive to Cruz Bay or eat-in. The road to the villa is paved, the parking space is on a typical island incline; so 4WD required. We can't wait to plan our next trip to St John!!

Super Sunrise Cozy Cottage

We loved the place. Great sunrises, and alot of great outdoors living space. Very cozy, and with the tradewinds the AC was not needed. We were fortunate that no one was upstairs during our visit, so we could hang out on the upper deck. We appreciated the cooler, and the beach chairs which we used everyday. On the norm we don't spend much time during the day at our rental but here was a perfect spot to play guitar and read. I'd rent this place again without hesitation. Thank you!

Restful & Relaxing

We very much enjoyed our stay here. It was quiet and peaceful, which was exactly what we were looking for. Every morning, we sat on the balcony to eat our breakfast and enjoy the sea breezes. Having that private outdoor space was really great. Also - the newly renovated bathroom is comfortable and very tastefully designed. We also VERY much appreciated a guide book of St. John. The book gave us detailed information about hikes in the area - without that book, I don't think we would have had such a great time. The place is clean, comfortable, quiet and we LOVED the sea breezes. Thanks again!!

Slice of Heaven

Cute Studio Cottage with awesome views and away from it all. I spent six nights at this spacious studio, great place to get away from it all. Great place to come back to after a day of swimming and snorkeling. It is in a garden type setting and I loved hearing the frogs sing every night. It had everything that I needed and Gwen the property management lady was awesome! Nice, warm, friendly and very informative. Booking process was easy. Quick deposit return. I could not ask for anything better!

Stonegarden in Paradise

The lower level of Stonegarden was as advertised. The only thing that could have been better would have been to have the upper level! The owners and property manager were wonderful. The view is worth everything. The cottage is nicely equipped and the beach accessories were greatly appreciated. Wonderful location just up the mountain from Coral Bay. Hard to imagine a better place for a reasonable price on St John.

Very nice spot nice views

The support from the local representative was super Our only small problem was resetting the wifi after a small blackout which she resolved quickly We had not been on St John since the early 80's and changes were evident everywhere but not to the beaches and trails. Thank you National Park. Super choices for eating and groceries in Coral Bay with a truly friendly atmosphere . LL jeep was great. Our jeep stopped at Love City Market so we took the bus to Salt Pond and Rams Head while they came out quickly and fixed it so we could make a scuba trip in the afternoon. The rental was very nice with nice furnishings and true St. John history Thanks for sharing your corner of St John with us.

Fabulous place for 2 people

-The space was cozy, welcoming, and wonderfully equipped with cleaning and cooking essentials, beach accessories. The space was extremely tidy and clean and the property was a lovely little haven in the jungle. -Communication was quick, friendly, and useful. The property managers were some of the best we've ever encountered and made us feel right at home at St. John. They were a wonderful component of enjoying our stay. -The grounds were beautiful and well-kept. They were beautiful to walk around and morning strolls to the secluded areas were wonderful. -We would definitely recommend these accommodations to our friends/couples who are looking for a affordable, welcoming, and beautiful place to stay in St. John.
