We stayed in one of the rooms external to the hotel so it was tired and in need of uograding. But the staff is awesome, the breakfast was delicious and the location is so convenient. We understand there are better rooms in the hotel and people love the spa.

My husband and I have a Wonderful Vacation last minute trip to Newfoundland. We purchased everything through Expedia, which included the flights, car and 3 nights at the Monastery Hotel with breakfast for all 3 mornings. We loved everything so much that we made another reservation here for our last night in Newfoundland before we headed back home. This hotel is located very close to the St. John's Airport. We, also, especially liked the staff in the hotel and at the Bistro. Both of the rooms size(s) were nice and large, and included a refrigerator. For the first 3 nights we had a Double Queen and for the last night of the week we had a King room. This hotel even had a passageway to the building where the Bistro and the Spa are located next door. We would recommend the Monastery Hotel, Spa and Bistro to everyone travelling to St. John's Newfoundland. Very close and within a short driving distance to George Street's night life and other locations such as Signal Hill, the Rooms Museum, Quidi Vidi and Gatherall's for a wonderful Whale Watching experience.

The Jacuzzi tub was a unique experience. We had a very relaxing and comfortable stay. No smart TV but we had an adapter to sign into our Netflix so that was fine. Dining at the bistro was fantastic with great ambiance! We would definitely stay here again.

The grounds were lovely and well kept. We loved breakfast at the bistro—especially that it was served all day, every day. The first room that we were given had very dirty floors (we found something sticky on the floor by the bed that we cleaned up) but we appreciated that we were given a new room. In that room, there were still some hairs left in the tubs and the furniture was very old (the mattress was bowed and the furniture was scuffed). However, we appreciated that the hotel staff acknowledged that this wasn’t their standard and were willing to fix the problem.

READ REVIEWS MAJOR WATER ISSUES

We REALLY want to give the Monestary a good review. Proximity to downtown was amazing, staff friendly, and the grounds and public areas are absolutely charming. BUT… We only had HOT water, scalding hot water in fact. We could not shower, wash our hands, or brush our teeth in the sink (used water bottles). After our first night we mentioned this to front desk who said “this sometimes happens” & they would let mechanical know.Three nights and nothing changed. After checking out we had time to do some digging and found a review from TEN years ago, the same room number (212) with the same complaint. It would seem this is on ongoing issue and they don’t care as long as someone is paying for the room. IF it weren’t for this we’d definitely be back!
