Watch your personal effects

Arrived at the hotel 8/1 at 4.15 pm room not ready until after 6, during which time my phone was stolen. Spent 3 days playing detective and finally managed to get my phone back. However, did not feel safe so left the hotel. General manager was very helpful and so were the local Police but had to spend a lot of time badgering to see the cctv. Very bad experience and question the security and safety for guest.

3rd time in Barbados

Barbados is amazing, this hotel location in St Lawrence gap is pretty good for not being direct onto the beach. On arrival at hotel they didn't have our booking, but was rectified. Room was ok, comfy bed and nice clean fluffy towels, kitchen very basic, missing items of crockery and Utensils though. Shower poor and lacked hot water but was fixed, hair dryer was missing from room but was replaced. Fridge froze all our food, we did manage to turn it down but most of the contents were ruined. Card key entry often didn't work well. There is a good pool but the pool bar area is not open any more. It has been replaced by a new beach front bar and restaurant which looks lovely and is clean. Nice area of beach and good loungers. The service at reception is pretty poor and not friendly, I thought it was bad until you go to the beach front bar and restaurant. The staff are rude and it is certainly the worst service we have ever received in the 10 years of going to the Caribbean. ( you do generally have to accept a little of island time service) we had one main meal there, food was alright, but due to service we agreed not to go again, mistakenly we decided on our second week to try breakfast, should have know better. The lady that cooked the eggs was lovely. However you will get much better breakfast, snacks, meals and drinks very close by, with great fun service and much better value. The Gap is a great location for all types of dining. Room only is a good choice. I do however have to acknowledge the grounds staff are all friendly and very polite. They should put these employees front of house.

Totally relaxing, beautiful beach!

We loved this hotel, it was informal, friendly, choice of pools, stunning beach, a host of eating options (Go Bajan for value!) and fun things to do. The morning flypast of stunning green parakeets, seeing little hummingbirds visiting the flower beds, or meeting a really international crowd that have been coming for years, made Divi Southwinds a really nice place to be. It was probably a resort for the more mature, not many young families but that's what made it very peaceful and idyllic. Evening restaurants and breakfasts were pricey so you do have to shop around or do it yourself. We thought the Bajan people were polite, friendly and very helpful. The apartment rooms were extremely clean and a good little kitchen included.

Great value for money, friendly and helpf staff, brilliant location

Would definitely recommend this hotel. Although a little tired round the edges, the rooms are very comfortable and pretty large. Extremely professional and helpful staff. Good facilities - really nice, large pool and lovely gardens. Our room wasn't spotless, but to be fair we dragged in a lot of sand most days from the beach. Rooms seem to be given a basic daily clean and beds made but not exactly a deep clean - by no means dirty though, so don't be put off by this. Good location right in the middle of St Lawrence Gap. All round really excellent value for money.

Can't do better for the £££s-location location location!

Even if its in need of a lick of paint, the location is perfect for The Gap. Lovely clean pool and plenty if cover. Nice large grounds. Pool bar and restaurant refurbished only recently to a very high standard and now open at night-very good. The rooms are extremely spacious getting a suite rather than just a room. A separate bedroom plus a lounge with nice sofa bed and good kitchen area. I've stayed here three times now and security this year was better in the past years maybe because of their newly refurbished facilities on the beach. I doubt you will do much better than this unless you want all inclusive but that's really not necessary on The Gap.

Superb hotel

Perfect location, a few minutes from the beach and bars/restaurants but its extremely quiet and picturesque. Staff can't do enough to help and our room was spacious, clean and well equipped. We had room only and that worked for us as I don't think it's the best value for money if you eat on site. I'd definitely return to this hotel as we couldn't fault it!
