Liked: Staff & service
Staff was excellent but the hotel is dated and the rooms were very old.
Very serene place. Loved the atmosphere & all the people I came into contact with. Great place to wind down. Clean room. Enjoyed my personal hot tub. I am not a good electronics guru, so I struggled plugging in phone & watch to charge. I was there for 2 days & it all worked out fine.
Our room was very comfortable and spacious. The restaurant was very good and so reasonably priced. Our waitresses were exceptional both nights and the fresh pear crumble was amazing!
The room was great, felt like you were staying in a little cabin. The only issue we had was that the tub faucet did not work, we had to fill it with the shower handle, and it also did not look like it had been cleaned properly so we wiped it out before we used it. Also the Keurig in the room had the descale light on so it needed to be cleaned. The staff was very friendly and the food in the restaurant was good. We would definitely stay again.
We really enjoyed our time in Sumas, less than a mile from the Canadian border. This place is centrally located to visit the North Cascades, Mount Baker, Bellingham and southern British Columbia. The staff was super nice and helpful and even did our laundry (for a reasonable charge), which allowed us to spend more time hiking and visiting this beautiful area of Washington. The hotel itself has a woodsy charm and the restaurant and bar on site is very convenient.
Photos and price hinted at luxury lodge. The room was huge with bed, lots of pillows, towels, and big whirlpool tub and shower. Great log cabin, western feel. The Bob’s restaurant downstairs was really, really good. Super country comfort food. Locals and staff are like being on the Yellowstone Ranch with Rip, Beth, and John Sutton.
Downside it is directly on the border crossing road with no security entrance.
The best part is that the lodge is the nearest hotel to Mount Baker. The drive to Heiliotrope Ridge Trailhead is beyond incredible. It’s a 4 mile winding hike through dense forest to Coleman Glacier. Serious hikers only! Road is narrow and dangerous!
