We chose the Greatt Hotel for its location - 1 block from the Shilin Night Market (one of the best in Asia) and close to the Shilin train station - straight shot to CKS Memorial and convenient 15-minute bus to National Palace Museum. It is a bit spartan, but the rooms are clean and the bathroom was great. Reception was very nice and useful but did not speak English - the use of Google Translate solved all problems. I definitely recommend this hotel.

This is a small, clean, quiet, modern, no frills, cost-effective property, which provides daily room service only if requested. The staff were cooperative, pleasant and receptionists could speak some English. It’s located in an old neighborhood with small store-front stores businesses and restaurants, a couple of blocks from the metro and 15-minutes taxi ride to the National Palace Museum.

Checkin experience was bad. I made a booking throught hotels.com and on the email confirmation it says clearly my name for two rooms. When I tried to checking the gentleman told me that I’ve only booked one room and asked me to call hotels.com. Only after multiple pushes he managed to find two bookings under Expedia for my name and my mother’s. I don’t know how it worked hotels.com and Expedia but I just think that if he could find it after me asking a few more times it must mean that he wasn’t checking carefully enough…

The room I stayed was on the second floor, street side (aka city view). The room is very clean and everything works well. However, the traffic noise is TERRIBLE. I asked for a different room after the first night and was told they are fully booked and suggested me to use the supplied ear plugs. The building situated in a narrow alley and the noise from motorcycles and buses echos, very pronounced and persistent, day and night! Highly recommend not to get a room on the street side!

For one night, not more

I stayed in another hotel less expensive in Zhongzheng area which was more convenient, the room was cleaned even if you leave it late (after 11am). Here, the receptionist open the hotel door. your card room doesn't allow you to enter the hotel, only switch the light from what I saw. There's apparently a self service Landry that I couldn't see as my card didn't allow me to open the door, to be honest I didn't ask why cause I saw meat or idk how to describe it in every corner of the stairs that takes you until the 6th floor. Finally the room, only the bthroom worth the price. The walls of the room I was given were dirty and not cleaned. Shilin district is nice, the night market is at just 2min by walk and it's a popular area that can offer many places to visit.

Great location by night market

The location, just a block from the largest night market in Taipei is great. The not so good things are as follows. The air conditioning takes three to four minutes to start after you put the card into the power slot at the entrance. The air conditioning stops when you leave, so the room is hot again when you come back in an hour or two. Setting the temperature in the room was difficult, and needed special instructions from the staff. Also, the staff didn't give the WiFi password cheat sheet on check-in, so that took more time to figure out. The number to call the front desk is a non-standard number, and is not shown on the front of the phone. So multiple trips to the front desk were needed. The bed was quite firm, but decently large. The shower was great.

到着して部屋の内側のチェーンがこわれていて、スタッフの方に見に来てもらったが、工具がないため直らない、このままで過ごしてくれ、のような事を言われ、その時点で大変不安になった。しばらくして、別の部屋のチェーンを持参して取り付けてくれたが、オートロック式でなく、差し込み式の鍵の為、なんだか不安感が拭いきれずに過ごした。 4泊したが、駅近、士林夜市にめちゃくちゃ近く、朝ごはん屋さんもたくさんあり立地は最高。ただ部屋は綺麗だが割と狭くて椅子も一つ。部屋でふたりで食事をとるのは難しい。トイレはウォシュレット、シャワールームもパナソニックの天井からヒーターが出るタイプで、冬のシャワー後、寒くなくて快適だった。スタッフの方は感じが良かった。シャワーの水圧、温度も問題なし。屋上にコイン式、洗濯機、乾燥機があった。洗剤は持参した方が良さそうです。 扉のチェーン、部屋の狭さが気になりましたが、トータルでは星3つ。
