Clean and tidy rooms with very comfy bed and amazing views, delicious breakfast however the bathroom was a disappointment, water pressurw was besrly non exsistant plus the shower head was dirty with a spider in the ocrner, also there was no shampoo avaialble. Overall very lovely place.
Prior to our stay we had an email stating credit card invalid and the booking was in danger of being cancelled. To my knowledge I had paid Hotels.com The email looked like a scam with a different reference number. I tried to contact the property to discuss my concerns and there was no reply. I eventually got through the following day and spoke to an abrupt man called John who's customer service skills were zero, all he was interested in was getting our card details. Thankfully he did ensure our requests were fulfilled.
* The staff in arrival were very helpful and friendly
* The room looked well presented, however it was extremely cold (despite a small fan heater) due to draughty windows and radiators/central heating not on. Consequently the room felt damp and smelt damp.
* The full English breakfast we had the first morning was really greasy and my other half said "it's the worst I've ever had!"
* There's no reception desk per se, I waited around for in excess of 15 for a member of staff to attend to a request. I ended up phoning the hotel to summon help and John answered, again his customer service skills wouldn't have been out of place at Fawlty Towers. Fortunately a member of staff appeared to help!
* Sunday night again there were no staff about in the reception/bar area. After a wait a member of staff did arrive. I requested food only to be told the kitchens closed early at 7pm. Also informed in a snooty manner they don't do snacks/bar meals, only fine dining.
Such a great smaller hotel with a cosy feel. They have obviously thought abut there customers and the staff were great. room very clean with a comfy bed. grounds were really well looked after and I'm sure in the summer months it would be a beautiful place to sit out & have dinner or some drinks. I really enjoyed the food. Dinner was very good and the breakfast was excellent. I will definitely be staying again if travelling close by.
Lovely country hotel, with really friendly, considerate and helpful staff. Good breakfast provided and lovely gardens to sit out, relax and take coffee with my visitors. Wifi, tv, etc all worked well. A few areas where the property is showing its age, but no real issues and it adds to the charm. Very happy with our stay.
Beautiful Georgian house. Lovely large rooms. Great food beautifully cooked. Very quiet and peaceful

Terrible WiFi and phone signal for business
Though the place was in good surroundings I am once again annoyed that the mis selling of WiFi availability is used on the hotel page.
I was told the WiFi is available under the stairs and had been updated? There was a table and chair under there? This hotel is quite large the hub I saw was very old and even my house has one 10 times stronger it is just not acceptable 3 nights work has stacked up because of it. I counted six separate people complaining about this. The receptionist who never cracked a smile in three days I was there was holding so many excuses for the WiFi I lost count!
The other complaint was my pillows smelled of other people? I asked for those 4 to be changed and the replacements where even worse as was the towels smelling of a mix of must and food aroma? I ended up using a cushion to sleep on. The phone signal is poor so if you are in business forget it!
I have stayed here a few times now and each time has been very good. Rooms are clean, beds are very comfortable, breakfast is spot on and the evening meals are delicious.
I have to have a gluten free diet and the Farthings are extremely accommodating.
The Farthings is my go to hotel when in Taunton area
The staff were very warm and welcoming and the hotel itself was very peaceful and quiet. We had a room overlooking the garden and enjoyed watching the peacocks and guinea fowl milling about. The location is ideal as it is situated just off the A358 and M5.

A beautifully homely restaurant with rooms rather than a hotel…
