About this property

Castle in Old Town, Vienna Room

Once a fortress before the Mongol invasions, it was from the 16th century the house of the Persian Shah Administrator for Eastern Georgia. It also hosted a small nunnery for some time. During the Communist period, it was transformed into communal apartments for up to 110 individuals. It has returned to its formal glory, and a limited number of its rooms are made available for some happy few, every year. We are happy to welcome you and hope you will enjoy your stay.

This room was designed after the American Café in Vienna, that Adolf Loos decorated a century ago. It hosts a collection of 20th-century Georgian paintings and drawings, from artists that benefited from the Montparnasse school in Paris, before the closing of the Soviet wall in 1937. The Teck cupboard is an original art deco piece from south India.
