From here, you can soak up the dramatic scenery of Tintagel’s windswept coastline and truly embrace its rugged charm. You can enjoy views over Tintagel Castle where legend has it is the birthplace of King Arthur. Find it perched high on the cliffs and split in two by a deep gorge, it’s full of history, enshrined in sea spray and sweeping picturesque views. The beach, overshadowed by the stronghold, is the ideal spot for exploring Merlin’s Cave and a pretty waterfall. From there, the South West Coast Path gives walkers some of the best clifftop views in Cornwall. Head north to the steep path down to Bossiney Cove (1.5 miles), or south to Trebarwith Strand (2.5 miles), a wide beach with waves, surfboards and a crisp drink at the end. Wild swimming enthusiasts may enjoy the clear waters of St Nectan’s Glen (2.5 miles), while foodies must dive into the seafood dishes of Polzeath (14 miles) or Padstow (23 miles).
