Apart from the delicious Fontina Dop from Valle D’Aosta, especially known during fun fondue nights with friends, the warm soups, and the typical platters with cheeses and cured meats, Valdostan cuisine boasts a fairly rich menu of traditional dishes such as the famous carbonade, which should not be confused with Roman carbonara. The carbonade from Valle D'Aosta is a dish made with tender beef stew cooked in wine, usually served with a side of polenta.
