The Space:

On the slopes of Serra D'Arga, where the silence is broken only by the wind and birdsong, Montaria Lodge spreads across a stone and timber property with sweeping views over the Lima valley. Six bedrooms sleep up to twelve guests in a house that blends the rustic soul of a Minho quinta with contemporary comfort: a vaulted wooden ceiling, wide glass doors that frame the mountains like a living painting, a fully equipped kitchen and generous living space for the whole family. Outside, the private pool stretches across the garden with sun loungers and an outdoor dining area, and as the sun drops behind the peaks, the horizon catches fire. This is not a hotel, but it feels like one.



Guest Access:

Guests have exclusive access to the entire property, including the pool, garden, and all indoor amenities. The Portugal Active concierge service is available 24/7 to cater to any needs, from organizing local excursions to booking private chef services. Please request any service at least 72 hours in advance.

During your stay, regular garden and pool maintenance may take place. These interventions are important to ensure that all equipment remains clean, functional, and safe to use.



During the high season (May to October), the pool is regularly maintained to ensure an impeccable experience for guests.

The Neighborhood:

The village of Montaria, on the northern slope of Serra D'Arga, moves at a pace the modern world hasn't quite reached. Stone-cobbled lanes, centuries-old quintas and apple orchards frame a landscape that rewards an aimless afternoon walk. Along the mountain trails, hidden waterfalls and crystal-clear lagoons await those willing to go further on foot or by bike. Ten minutes by car, the town of Ponte de Lima hosts one of the oldest fortnightly markets in the country, full of local flavours and crafts. Viana do Castelo, with its historic centre, the Basilica of Santa Luzia and a lively riverside, is less than twenty minutes away. The Atlantic coast, with long sandy beaches, is just over half an hour.



Getting Around:

Montaria Lodge is reached by car along the mountain road towards Montaria, about twenty minutes from the centre of Viana do Castelo. The Lodge has private parking on site. Viana do Castelo is eighteen kilometres away, with train connections to Porto in under two hours. A car is essential for exploring the region: Ponte de Lima is fifteen minutes away, the Atlantic beaches thirty. Porto's Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport is approximately eighty kilometres, just over an hour by road.

Fijn huis met eenvoudige inrichting en eenvoudige aankleding. De beheerder is zeer hulpvaardig bij evt verzoeken. De keuken was aanvankelijk wat 'schraal ' qua glazen, kommen, ed...maar dat werd snel en kordaat opgelost na een mailtje. De tuin is heerlijk met n mooi zwembad ed. We gaven aan dat de ligstoelen defect waren en de kussens van de ligstoelen waren beschimmeld; dat zou opgelost worden voor de volgende gast wed beloofd. Dus doe er uw voordeel mee. De septic tank zou vol zitten en dat zou de vieze, rottende geur in de sanaitaire ruimtes verklaren. Hopelijk is de tank inmiddels geleegd, want de geur is echt wel hevig en dat was eigenlijk het enige échte minpunt van het huis en de beheerder. De bedden liggen fijn, lekker stevig en een fijn dekbed en kussen. Alles was goed schoon bij aankomst, behalve de vloer, die was niet zo goed gedweild, maar dat hebben we zelf opgelost. De BBQ was defect/ niet goed werkend, maar ook dat zou door de eigenaar opgelost worden voor de volgende huurders. Heerlijke handdoeken, douchezeep en tussentijdse schoonmaak van het huis...we hebben een fijne vakantie gehad in dit huis.
