The View & Experience

From the lanai, watch the sun rise over Haleakalā (House of the Sun), the long-dormant 10,000-foot volcano that defines Maui’s skyline. Look out over the water and you may spot green sea turtles surfacing for air or resting along the shoreline. During the winter months (November through April), you’ll have a front-row seat to breaching humpback whales as they migrate to Maui’s warm waters to give birth and nurse their young. In the summer, when the south swells roll in, you can watch surfers take on the legendary “Freight Trains,” one of the fastest surfable waves in the world.

Access to the beach is protected from the road by the bird-filled ponds of the Kealia Wildlife Refuge, creating a peaceful, uncrowded atmosphere where it often feels like you have the beach to yourself.
