Beautiful & romantic setting. Definitely not somewhere to bring the kids! We booked a classic room & much nicer than expected as room had been completely refurbished to modern contemporary style whereas the website showed this as being very chintzy/dated so much nicer than we expected . And with the old beams showing, made us feel like we were staying somewhere historic and not just in a newer part of the hotel . We had booked dinner there & although expensive, it was wonderful & perfect for our anniversary. The wine list was 53 pages long!! Despite there being 3 lounges, there is no actual bar but drinks are brought to you. However, I would have liked to have been able to sit at a bar & watch the barman at work making the cocktails. Breakfast was included & again the food was fresh & cooked to order. Had a wonderful Eggs Royale despite not being on the menu. The staff were very welcoming calling us by our names which I always thinks personalises your stay more. Overall we had the most fantastic stay and will definitely be returning.

A special place to stay

Pros: Very special location, steeped in history, lovely surroundings and beautiful suite.

Cons: The opportunity to dine less formally.

Location: Lots to explore, Arundel, the coast, Midhurst and Cowdry Estate. Good wood is nearby

Behind the gatehouse lies the hunting lodge where most of the accommodation is situated, but we were upgraded to a suite in the converted cowshed just outside the walls. The accommodation was really well appointed, and really comfortable. It was a little disappointing not to be in the main castle, but it was peaceful and relaxing. The bed was super comfy. We dined in The Queens Room on the first night. It was a nice treat but very pretentious. The dining room lacked atmosphere, it could do with some music. This is the only dining available in the restaurant. There is a bar menu (but no bar area) to be served in ones room or in one of the lounges, but there are no tables to sit and eat, only low tables. We opted to eat elsewhere after the first night.
