Located on the shores of the Solway Coast in the Moricambe Bay the area is a haven for the local bird life making the sand dunes, salt marsh, shingle beds and peat mosses their home. There are viewpoints for spotting waders, curlew, golden and grey plover, lapwings and many more birds scattered along the shoreline. Located in the centre of the village on the former site of the Roman Fort of Maia which was the second largest fort on Hadrian's Wall and within a 5 minute walk of the sea front Bowness House Farm provides 4 self catering holiday cottages in the courtyard, the orchard is home to 4 shepherds huts and a luxurious 7 room bed and breakfast is in the old farmhouse.
