Highly recommended

The staff were excellent helpful and friendly. Anything you wanted they supplied if it was available. My 2 bookings caused minor problems but soon overcome. The hotel has a great situation admittedly up a hill but it was worth it. We had a view of Windermere lake from our room.

Not a pleasant stay

I stayed at the oakbank when I had a gig in Bowness, I used to live in the area. I was very disappointed when I checked in and was told to find my own way across the road and self check in at another building with no help with my luggage. When I got to my room I was located on the corridor area, I entered my room and there were dirty plastic bottles on the floor. The mattress was springy very uncomfortable and pillows hard like rocks. Sheets appeared clean, bathroom was moderate with nice products, clean towels and ok tea making facilities. However, I heard noise all throughout the night, no insulation, crying baby and dog barking all night. Then during all hours I heard people walking in and out I did not sleep at all. When I asked for compensation the next day the manager wasn’t authorised to help me and I was very upset about the experience. I hope management resolve this matter urgently as it is such a shame this place has a lot of potential.

Winter break

We had a two night stay last week as a nice little winter break, the place was really cosy with a nice open fire in the bar, the breakfast was really nice with plenty of choice, we had an evening meal there one night too which was nice. The hotel is close to all shops and restaurants etc. if I had one little niggle which definitely wouldn’t put me off staying again is the fact that the tv reception was rubbish, we had about 5 channels that actually worked in our room, this seems to be the norm with hotels for some reason, other than that everything was fantastic.

Was pleasantly surprised to see I could trade in room cleaning for 2 drinks each day (1 room 2 occupants) but the messaging left a lot to be desired and conflicted with door hanger and in-room info sheets. Otherwise excellent stay.

Give it a miss till they improve.

Staff really pleasant and accommodation was of decent quality (clean and comfy). Shower switched between hot and cold by it’s own volition and if children had been under it they would have been scolded. The food at the Angel was poor. Service was slow and the food arrived dry and thrown together. Both evening meal and breakfast were the same so now a one off. It was a real shame as it has the makings to be a great stopover but just didn’t deliver

In a really good spot right in the centre of Bowness. The hotel itself has been refurbished very tastefully. Our room was a bit of a let down. It was smaller than ones we've had there in the past. There were 3 ladies in a 4 bed family room. The bathrooms lack hooks and cabinets. Although the bathroom was a goid size,there was nowhere to put toiletry bags ect or hang clothes whilst showering. We pointed this out on our stay last year also. The hotels location is perfect for getting around Bowness, and handy for bus services to take you to other parts of the Lake District . Staff are very friendly and welcoming.
