Resort was great! One of the best I have been to and would highly recommend. Only downside was that people would wake up in the middle of the night and put towels on the chairs so that they were already all reserved before 6am.

Great resort. Lots of things to do and see. Abundant wildlife, turtles, deer, iguanas, coati and agouti. Food was excellent! We loved the seafood restaurant the best.

This was the 3rd time staying at Barcelo Maya, but will probably be the last. The beach & pools are fantastic. The room (this time at the Palace) was good, not quite as nice as the Riviera. Drinks at the pool were below average (very syrup-y, didnt use real juice in most drinks). Ok if you only drink beer (not us). My main disappointment was the quality of the food. Food at the buffetts was rarely hot, lacked flavor to just bad tasting altogether. This resort has plenty of dessert options, unfortunately very few were any good. Got worst case of food poisoning after dinner one night, & spent the next day and a half in bed. Not how I wanted to spend my vacation. Another guy in our group also got food poisoning. While I absolutely love the beach and pools at this resort (and highly recommend the rooms at the Riviera), the god-awful food will be the reason I stick with Xcaret next time I come to Mexico.

Can't wait to go back! Fantastic pools with waterslides that the kids loved because they were nice and fast! Amazing snorkeling right off the beach with turtles and fish! Great buffets that even had a vegetarian section (yay!). We also appreciated the Coral Grill buffet that was open when the others were closed. Our room and bathroom were very spacious, and we valued all the bottled water. The a la carte restaurants for the most part weren't really a good match for us, except for the Tokyo teppanyaki restaurant. Quote from our 10 year old daughter: "best meal of the trip!" Not only was it entertaining, but the food was phenomenal! Terrific tofu! (be sure to reserve early to get a spot during your stay, and they do enforce the dress code for adults) The nightly entertainment was fun, and my daughter especially was a fan of the kids karaoke. (be sure to get there 15-20 minutes early so you can score a spot to sing) The breadth of options you have access to across all the Barcelo Maya resort is a plus (be sure to bring your walking shoes so you can cover the distances unless you want to wait for the complimentary resort bus)

This was our first experience with taking our kids (ages 8, 6, & 4yo) to an all-inclusive resort, and overall, it was a decent vacation experience, but we do not plan to return to the Barcelo resorts. We had fun swimming at the various pools (but no hot tub which sucked), the food was decent, and the beach was fun; however, the resort staff offered no help outside of the dining area. The complex is huge, but there was no tour or explanation of services at arrival (a first for us at a resort) and the "resort guide" provided by a QR code provides nothing informative. Typically, on vacation, I will book a spa day and we'll do a few excursions, but it felt like it took so much effort on our end trying to figure out how to do those things, we didn't do any of it. The only time the staff put effort into anything "extra" for us, was when they tricked us into a sales pitch for a membership - I won't elaborate on details, but let's just say over an hour of time wasted on a BEAUTIFUL day, midday w/ 3 HANGRY and tired kids. That same night, we got locked out of our room due to a dead battery, and it took over an hour to get someone to fix it - so, we had 3 exhausted kids sitting outside the room at 9:30pm with nothing to do bc everything is shut down by then. No apologies or consideration for the inconvenience. The only reason it wasn't a bad vacation is because we chose to make the most of it and our kids still had fun, but they've never experienced anything else.

Never ever book through Expedia. I was charged double upon my arrival. I had three kids and they charge me again three kids. Expedia did nothing to escalate this issue. they lead you to believe there is a deal only to this book your reservation, and you end up paying more in the end. The hotel was beautiful with the way Expedia and the hotel representation handle. The situation was unjustifiable.

Entire property was extremely well maintained, all staff were nice and helpful. Being able to visit other hotels within the Barcelo family is nice and offered the kids the ability to try different pools. Would highly recommend this property for any families. Only caveat, in the property description they don't mention the water park/surfing area is an extra charge, along with the bowling and some other activies. Also, if you don't get a reservation for dinner at one of the highly in demand A La Carte restaurants, there only is the buffet available.

Overall great hotel. Excellent pool area, great dining options, nice rooms. Something NOT in control for the hotel - majority of beach is rocky and lots of seaweed. Also, our family wishes they would release the captive dolphins from that tiny enclosure. Just painful to see them there.
