Great location great hostel

Great hotel close to amenities and reasonable price for a Saturday night. Double room en suite was a bit chilly and extra bedding would have been nice. Shower cubicle in the en suite pod was a bit small for my partner and both could have done with a deep clean overall.

Could do better but no real competition

Pros: Location is good.
Cons: A 10am check-out stinks! Provide soap in the rooms and for the price a towel should be included as a minimum. Train staff to be more friendly.
Location: Good location 10mins walk from York station and 10-15min walk from the city centre.
As a more expensive hostel it gets a lot right, so it’s a shame it gets so many important things wrong – no soap (or shower gel) provided in rooms, the £2 towel charge, the under-bed lockers are too big for the small rooms and the 10am check out were particular annoyances. I didn’t find the staff overly friendly and on the Saturday night I stayed, the constant pounding noise of a nearby nightclub was audible all night – if it wasn’t for earplugs and alcohol I’d never have slept! That all said, York has a chronic lack of cheap accommodation so you may end up here via default.

A good night in York

Pros: Everything really.
Cons: Offer of a cooked breakfast?!!
Location: Great location - just inside the City wall. It's just a 10 minute walk from the cobbled streets of the city centre and the streets around Yorkminster
I booked this hostel online - very easy to do so - and paid on arrival. The staff was very helpful and clear with directions etc, and made me aware of the breakfast options they provided for a reasonable rate. The building was really nice - a large 18th Century (i think) townhouse that was owned by a rather well-to-do person. So it had quite a grand feeling about it. I was in a dorm of 12, which meant that i had a somewhat disrupted sleep with people coming and going all hours of the night, as you might expect, but the bed itself was clean and comfortable so I can't fault the hostel at all. They had staff on all night, not that i needed them, but it was quite reassuring to know that someone was always around. Overall, it provided exactly what i had hoped for - a clean and comfortable place to crash out for my night in York.

Location.

Pros: The reception staff were very friendly and extremely helpful.
Cons: Bunk was very squeaky.
Location: Great location and an easy walk for both the train station and the city.
I will certainly stay here the next time I visit York.
