Welcome to my home in Santa Catarina Barahona, where you will cook as our Mayan grandmothers did. I learned this cuisine from my grandmother, and today I'm sharing it with you: fresh ingredients from the local market, a clay comal and firewood, a grinding stone, and recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation.
You choose one of 4 traditional menus and cook it with your own hands from scratch:
IMPORTANT: The entire group must choose the same menu for this date. Out of respect for time and traditional cuisine, we only prepare one menu per 3-hour workshop.
Menu 1 - Classic from Sacatepéquez
The national dish of Guatemala. Pepián in a thick sauce made from roasted seeds.
Includes: Pepián + Homemade toast + Banana rellenos + Handmade tortillas + Fresh lemonade or Jamaica
Menu 2 - Flavours of the West
Traditional recipe from Huehuetenango. Green jocón with fresh herbs.
Includes: Guatemalan tacos + Jocón + Mole + Handmade tortillas + Fresh lemonade or Jamaica
Menu 3 - Authentic Kaqchikel Cuisine
Ancestral dish of the region. Subanik wrapped in maxán leaves.

Menu 4 - Ancient Tradition
The party dish. Three-meat stew in tomato sauce and spices.
Includes: toast + Three-meat stew + Banana rellenos + Handmade tortillas + Fresh lemonade or Jamaica
INCLUDES: 100% participatory workshop, local ingredients, lunch, traditional drink, bilingual written recipe.
More than a cooking class, Utum is a close encounter with Mayan culture. I will teach you the meaning of each ingredient, we will grind on stone, and you will share the table as if you were family. You'll take away new skills and the taste of home.
Workshop note: Out of respect for time and traditional cuisine, we only prepare one menu per group in each 3-hour session. This way, we can cook calmly, share the table together, and everyone can enjoy the full experience.
