Overview

Join this spectacular journey along the breathtaking Wild Atlantic Way, through the lunar-like landscape of the Burren and on to the iconic Cliffs of Moher. See medieval ruins, 16th century tower house castles, churches, graveyards, drystone walls, quays, harbours, ponies, calves, cows, lambs, sheep and maybe even a leprechaun or two!

Driving along the coast of Clare, witness the power of the Atlantic Ocean as it battles the coastline. Board the ferry in Doolin for Inisheer, the smallest and nearest of the Gaeltacht Aran Islands. Activity itinerary

Cliffs of Moher
  • 1h
You depart Galway in the morning with your local trained driver guide who will take you on a unique journey along the Wild Atlantic Way, through the lunar-like landscape of the Burren and on to the Cliffs of Moher. Heading towards the ferry departure point at the fishing village of Doolin you will pass through the picturesque villages of Clarenbridge, Kilcolgan, Ballindereen, Kinvara and Ballyvaughan. Along the way you will see Medieval ruins, 16th century tower house castles, churches and graveyards, dry stone walls, quays and harbours, ponies, horses, calves, cows, lambs, sheep and maybe even a leprechaun or two. Turning right at Ballyvaughan, your local, driver guide will take you south following the Wild Atlantic Way along the coast of Clare, via Black Head (Wild Atlantic Way – Discovery Point), Fanore Strand (Wild Atlantic Way – Discovery Point) and the baby cliffs of Ballyreen. From here you can witness the power of the Atlantic Ocean as it battles the coastline of Ireland, this is the Wild Atlantic Way. At approx. 11am you will be in Doolin to board the ferry for Inisheer, the smallest and nearest of the Gaeltacht Aran Islands. The three Aran Islands are three limestone rocky outcrops that lock in Galway Bay, consisting of Inishmore (Inis Mor), Inishmaan (Inis Meain) and Inisheer (Inis Oirr). During the 30-minute ferry crossing, keep an eye out for a local bottlenose dolphin that occasionally follows the ferry as it approaches the Island. Once on Inisheer, you’ll have time to yourself to explore the ancient castles and churches, follow narrow lanes between stone walls and deserted white sand beaches. It’s perfectly possible to explore the whole Island by hiring a bicycle or even a pony and trap. The return ferry to Doolin takes you on a guided scenic cruise beneath the spectacular Cliffs of Moher. From here you get an amazing view of the 214m high, 8 km long Cliffs of Moher (Wild Atlantic Way – Signature Point). As they say around here “From the Cliffs you see the sea but from the sea you see the Cliffs.” Then, arrive at the top of the Cliffs of Moher. Re-board the coach and your local, your driver/guide will take you to the top of the Cliffs of Moher for a minimum 1 hour stop. Entry fee to the Cliffs and the eco-friendly visitors centre, the Atlantic Edge, is included. Have a stroll along the summit of the Cliffs and take in the amazing views of the huge ocean and sky. Depart Cliffs of Moher, return to Galway via Lisdoonvarna, home to the world famous matchmaking festival held every September and once again through the limestone, glacio-karst landscape that makes up the Burren. At approx. 6.30pm arrive Galway city to initial departure point.

This trip was great, as was our guide Alan. It's been a bucket list item of mine to see the Cliffs and Ireland in general. We came here on our honeymoon and this tour was so nice. Picked us up right in Galway, took us out to Doolin. Got information about the villages as we passed through. Got a ferry to Inisheer where we were able to take a horse and cart around the island. The ferry back took us under the Cliffs and we got some history and facts while cruising, it was magical. We then got over an hour at the top of the Cliffs to walk and view the tower and the visitor center.

We had an absolutely fantastic experience on the Aran Islands, Cliffs of Moher & Cruise tour from Galway! Our guide, Alan, made the day truly special with his knowledge, humor, and passion for the region. From the moment we set off, he kept us engaged with fascinating stories about Irish history, culture, and the stunning landscapes we were about to explore. The trip itself was well-organized, with a perfect balance of guided sightseeing and free time. The visit to Inisheer, the smallest of the Aran Islands, was a highlight—such a charming place with breathtaking views and warm local hospitality. The Cliffs of Moher were just as spectacular as we’d imagined, and seeing them from both above and from the cruise below was an unforgettable experience. Alan’s enthusiasm and attention to detail made the tour even more enjoyable. He went above and beyond to ensure everyone was comfortable, entertained, and well-informed throughout the day. If you’re looking for an incredible way to experience Ireland’s west coast, I highly recommend this tour—especially with Alan as your guide!

Jerry, our bus driver and tour guide extraordinaire was wonderful. So very knowledgeable about the country he so obviously loves and we can see why. The Aran Islands were very interesting although I wish we had a bit more time to spend there. The Cliffs of Moher speak for themselves…beautiful! Jerry even held off the rain until our way back to Galway. Yes, he’s that good 😌. Great day all in all!

Absolutely amazing!!! We had Alan as our tour guide and he is THE BEST. Funny, informative, and maneuvered the narrow roads better than Lewis Hamilton. We were lucky and got a clear day, so the views of the Cliffs of Moher from the boat were truly impeccable. We came in late March, and it was a full tour and still very busy, but being able to go to Inis Oirr first and then experience the Cliffs first from the boat made a huge difference. No crowds there ;) On Inis Oirr we rented the bikes, and it was great for being able to see a lot — the two hours feels like it will be long, but it goes fast!! The only downside to the bikes is that you don’t get the guide commentary you get on the horses or in the smaller van, but Alan made up for all that with all his facts on the way back to Galway. We ate a bit of lunch at Flaherty’s and it was delicious. The chowder was incredible, tons of fish and full of flavor! And a pint of Guinness (of course). An unforgettable experience!

So glad we got to explore Inisheer by bike and even had time to eat soup in a pub there. Great views of the cliffs by boat; probably too much time at the cliffs visitor center but we made it work and went to the shops to kill time. Bus is a little cramped but guide was great and very friendly off the bus!

Alan was great! He told jokes the whole way and gave a mix of history/local info and peace and quiet with some Irish music. This is the tour to do to see the Cliffs! Start by going out to the Aran Islands, see the cliffs from boat tour, then from the top. Incredible!! Must do!
