Athinios Port Santorini (Pass by)
Arrival on Santorini after about 2 hours boat trip. Embarkation on the buses for the guided tour.
Oia

Bus Drive to Oia: 40 minutes Visit the beautiful blue and white village built on the cliffs of Santorini, providing amazing views of the volcanic Caldera. Participants will enjoy about 1 hour and 45 minutes of free time, to photograph the Aegean architecture and the unique view over the caldera and the Aegean sea.
Fira

Bur Drive to Fira: 30 minutes Fira is the capital town of Santorini. Enjoy 1 hour and 20 minutes of free time there. Then, there are 2 options for the next 1.5 hours: 1) take a cruise to the volcano and hot springs (extra charge - ask your guide because this option is available only in high-season months and when the weather approves) 2) stay longer in Fira and enjoy lunch in one of the restaurants overlooking the breathtaking Caldera of Santorini.

Heraklion

The tour and tour guide were great but I was disappointed in the island itself. I guess I was expecting something different from all the pictures and descriptions from family and friends.

I was concerned about the bad reviews but I'm happy to say our experience was quite good. I chose this tour because I heard how expensive it is in Santorini but I wanted to see it without paying as much. While this tour is also not cheap for me it was worth it by having the convenience of knowing exactly where to go and have everything planned out for you. I saw people I assume had taken the ferry themselves trekking on some treacherous steep windy roads. Not for me! Our favourite part was the ride to the volcano and the short swim to the hot springs. All in all a very enjoyable day.

We done this trip with Cretan Odyssey on 30th September. It was an early pickup in Hersonissos to make the 8am boat to Santorini Island. We were guided straight to the ticket office where the pre-printed return tickets were handed over with instructions upon our arrival. The boat journey was pretty smooth and comfortable as the weather was kind. Once arrived we located our pickup coach and met our Tour Guide. Firstly we visited Oia which has the famous blue domed churches. On the day it was very busy as a few cruise ships were docked on the island so the narrow roads in Oia were very congested. Still managed to see the main sights and some amazing photo's. We then set off to Fira (capital). This was also quite busy and has similar narrow streets. We then headed back for the late afternoon boat back to Heraklion. Trip was very well operated and the local Lady guide (didn't get her name) who spoke great English and gave great information about the island. Overall it was a memorable day but I would say a bit expensive overall as the boat ticket face values were quite cheap. A long day around 14 hours from hotel pickup to hotel drop off. Still though a once in a lifetime trip if staying around Heraklion.

The tour guide Patricia was awesome!!! She shared a lot of the history of the places with us. I don't recommend this tour because I don't feel that it worths the money paid (~US$200) and you don't get to see much in this time-limited day tour. You can easily take the same speedboat from Heraklion Port to Santorini for 13.5 euro one way. Then they have buses going to the two destinations, Oia and Fera. The free time in each was very limited in this tour and it was soooo crowded with tourists that it took a long time to elbow through so you don't get to see much because you'll have to hurry back to the bus by the set time. Also, these two places are both VERY commercial, with mostly souvenir, jewelry and clothing shops. Oia is where you will find those white houses with blue top and it's really beautiful. Fera is not so special in my opinion.

For an island with such a grand reputation we found it to be ugly and filled with tourists as to make it uncomfortable in the small streets. The ferry ride over, the bus ride up the town was all so unappealing that I wouldn’t waste my time nor energy again. All those beautiful pictures of Santorini must be staged as to make it look like a beautiful place, but in reality, it IS NOT!

Glad we did this tour, our guide was awesome and very knowledgeable. While I am sad the time at each place was so short (especially while trying to fight through the crowds and the heat) We did manage to get some great pix with amazing views! Just gave a 4 not 5 star only due to the shortness of time at each spot. Otherwise great tour.

The tour provider was incredible. From the people at the port assisting with the tickets, the guide and the bus driver. Talking about the bus driver, he showed an incredible sign of kindness. There was a family walking to the port in the narrow street and he stopped and offered them a ride. We were quite a bit of distance from the port when he did this. A truly admirable action. This tour provider was great. Now to my personal experience in Santorini. There were three cruise ships docked in addition to the people who arrived on the ferries. It was so crowded you had very little space to get good pictures and to move around. I guess the timing of my visit was off. The bigger adventure of my visit was navigating the crowd without any incidents, the photos I was able to take were just an added bonus. Beautiful place, just have to be ready for the incredible volume of people there at one time. Seen it, done it and barely got the picture. Would I do it again; maybe.
