What you can expect

  • At the designated time, we will meet at the Coto de las Canteras car park to begin a guided tour of this remarkable site in Osuna, known as the Petra of Andalusia. Did you know that this name is attributed to the writer Mario Vargas Llosa, winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature?

This ancient quarry, dating back to the 5th century B.C., has been used by the Iberians, the Romans, and the Andalusians. During our visit, we will learn about the fascinating history and the legacy left by each of these civilisations at the site, which is located on a private estate owned by the Ramos Lobo family.

At the quarry, we will also see a series of sculptures and reliefs carved in 2004 by Francisco Valdivia Gómez. This local artist sought to capture the history of the site through his work, creating notable pieces such as La Fuente del Lobo (The Wolf Fountain), El Relieve de la Vendimia (The Grape Harvest Relief), and a sculpture of a large, Iberian-inspired lion.

After visiting the Coto de las Canteras, we will take a short walk to the Roman necropolis of Osuna, another of the town's main archaeological sites. At this ancient cemetery, we will see several artificial caves that were used for cremations and burials.

Finally, we will visit the monumental area of Osuna, where we will admire the exterior of the Old University, founded in the 16th century. We will also pass through Calle San Pedro, Calle Sevilla, and Plaza Mayor. Finally, we will admire the majestic Collegiate Church of Osuna, with its imposing Baroque façade, which houses valuable works of art inside.

We will say goodbye at this final stop, after a 4-hour tour.
