Next, visit the Mirante da Praia do Porto for a historical talk connecting the port to the whaling era. Then, enjoy a short hike to the observation deck at Ribanceira Beach. This is our main stop: we will gather on shore to observe the whales in their most important nursery, using our guide’s professional binoculars. Finally, savour a delicious, typical lunch at a charming restaurant by the sea and unwind on the beach before heading back to Florianópolis.

Museu da Baleia de Imbituba

Accompanied by our expert guide and a local museum docent, you will step back in time at the last remaining whaling station in South America. Inside this historic 18th-century building, you will explore authentic artefacts, tools, and bone displays that reveal the grueling history of the whaling era, followed by the inspiring storey of community transformation that turned Imbituba into a leading sanctuary for whale conservation.

Mirante da Praia do Porto

At this spectacular oceanfront lookout, your expert guide will bring history to life, explaining the strategic role of Imbituba's historic port and its deep connection to the whaling era. As you take in panoramic views of the coast, you will learn how this bustling harbour transformed from a centre of whaling commerce into a vital gateway for the region, all while keeping your eyes on the horizon for a chance to spot right whales breaching in the waters below.
