What you can expect

Begin your day with a drive to the Tianhetan Scenic Area in the southwestern suburbs of Guiyang. Explore a typical karst landscape, combining magnificent waterfalls, clear springs, deep pools, unique rocks, strange caves, and natural stone bridges, earning it the reputation of a “miniature landscape of Guizhou.”

Upon arrival, take a boat ride through the deep water cave. Inside the cave, stalactites and stalagmites of various shapes are illuminated by colourful lights, creating a mysterious underground palace. As the boat reaches the end, a spectacular view unfolds before you: a magnificent group of travertine waterfalls, with the widest one spanning 210 metres, a rare sight in China. The water cascades down layers of calcified rocks, creating a powerful and awe-inspiring spectacle.

Afterwards, stroll through the dry cave, marvelling at the natural craftsmanship and admiring the myriad forms of stalagmites and stalactites, each one astonishing. The scenic area also features the Xiangbagou Water Culture Zone, with small bridges, flowing streams, and waterwheels, presenting a pastoral scene that allows you to experience the rich local culture while enjoying the natural beauty.

In the afternoon, head to Qingyan Ancient Town, a town with over 600 years of history. As one of the four ancient towns in Guizhou, Qingyan Ancient Town is renowned for its well-preserved Ming and Qing Dynasty architecture, profound historical and cultural heritage, and unique ethnic customs. Walking on the bluestone streets of the ancient town, you will feel as if you have stepped back in time.

The town's city walls, archways, temples, academies, and residential buildings exhibit diverse architectural styles, with intricate carvings and exquisite craftsmanship. Visit the four city gates of the ancient town, experiencing its majestic presence as a former military stronghold.

Within the ancient town, savour various authentic Guizhou snacks, such as Qingyan Tofu, Zhuangyuan Ti (braised pig trotters), and Rose Sugar, each bite offering a taste of history. There are also many handicraft shops in the ancient town where you can find unique souvenirs with Guizhou characteristics. Furthermore, Qingyan Ancient Town is a melting pot of diverse ethnic cultures, where you will see the harmonious coexistence of Han, Miao, Buyi, and other ethnic groups, experiencing its unique charm.
