What you can expect

Known locally as Tomnop Brateak Krola, Secret Lake is a large man-made irrigation reservoir built during the late 1970s under the Khmer Rouge regime. Constructed through harsh forced labour, the reservoir stands as a poignant reminder of one of Cambodia's darkest chapters, when countless people endured brutal conditions and many lost their lives during its construction.
Today, the lake has become one of Kampot's most picturesque landscapes. Its calm, mirror-like waters are surrounded by emerald rice paddies, renowned Kampot pepper plantations, and dramatic limestone mountains, creating a peaceful setting that contrasts with its tragic past.
A short drive uphill leads to Veha Café Lookout Viewpoint, where breathtaking panoramic views stretch across Secret Lake, the surrounding countryside, and the distant mountain ranges. This scenic hilltop café is the perfect place to relax with a locally brewed coffee, capture stunning photographs, and admire the natural beauty of rural Kampot from above.

Tour Highlights
Discover the best of Kampot's countryside on a journey through its natural beauty, rich history, and local traditions. Visit the famous Kampot Sea Salt Fields and learn how local families have harvested sea salt using traditional methods for generations (seasonal from December to April). Explore the hidden limestone chambers of Phnom Kbal Romeas Cave, home to impressive stalactites, stalagmites, and ancient rock formations. Continue to the peaceful Secret Lake (Brateak Krola Reservoir), where you'll enjoy scenic countryside views while learning about its remarkable history. Relax at the Veha Café Viewpoint with lunch or a refreshing drink as you admire breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of the lake, surrounding farmland, and distant mountains. Then, visit a renowned Kampot pepper plantation, such as La Plantation or Bo Tree, for a guided tour and tasting of world-famous Kampot Pepper, including black, red, white, and fresh green peppercorns. End the day at the Kampong Samaki Community Fishery, where a peaceful walk along an elevated mangrove boardwalk offers insight into community-led conservation efforts while showcasing the beauty of Kampot's coastal ecosystem.
