Overview

The village experience -tour is always done with local guides from the village, and all the activities are planned to benefit the village and nature conservation. Discover how locals live their everyday lives and how they make their livelihoods.

Mnarani Aquarium is a small tidal lake surrounded by the porous coral rag stone that is home to dozens of endangered hawksbill and green turtles. You will get to feed the turtles with seaweed and to take photographs. You will also have a chance to visit dhow (local boat) makers by the beach and see how a boat will be prepared or made from the scratch. The tour finishes with a great Swahili local style lunch!

If you are not staying in Nungwi, we are happy to arrange a reasonably priced transfer.

Hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) have traditionally been hunted around Zanzibar for their attractive shells, and Green turtles (Chelonia mydas) for their meat.
